Failing the VET with shitty gas mileage
Right now my car will not pass the VET. It failed the hydrocarbon part of the test. I have a JDM B16 with a ODB1 P72 in it. I know my car is running hella rich for the simple fact that I'm getting a little over 200 miles to the tank. As of right now, the exhaust is crap from the header to the cat back. It has a stock gutted cat on it, but I've had people tell me that it has nothing to do with it. I should be getting my Apexi WS, Carsound, and JDM 4-1 installed sometime this week, but I'm not sure if this is gonna help it. I have a CEL for my knock sensor, but I'm not sure if it has anything to d with it either. I've tried everything, but no luck. With the CEL could my car be in some kind of safe mode and dumping a **** load of fuel?
Any suggestions would greatly aprreciated. Thanks!

Funny that you say that. I bought the car from a guy in southern Indiana and he told me it passed the VET there. At the time he only was a using a P28 SOHC ecu. He put the P72 (yes a GSR) in the car before I bought it off him. I put a P30 in it and it seemed to idle funny, but at the time the PCV valve was out because of a bad wheel hop situation at the track one night.
I might try to use my buddies P30 out of his DOHC Del Sol and see if it works and runs alright.
Would anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my gas mileage? This is getting expensive being this car is my daily driver and I put at least 275 miles a week on it.
Thanks! Corey
