Just like the title says, i want to see what you guys are doing. Doesn't need to be custom or really flashy just need some ideas on space utilization.

Since you put question marks i'm going to play the mind reader and assume you want to know if it's a box or just a sheet of wood with a sub mounted to it. It's a box lol

thanks y0!

those PDX amps seem to do pretty good with just a little ventilation so i went for it. that amp is not a monster power piece either, it's a 4.150.

the box is monsterous, but WinISD wanted 2.5 ft volume and quite a bit of port for my sub to get the response curve i wanted so i made it anyway. it's not all that bad since it's contoured to the back angle and leaves a little room in the hatch for some things, but i don't carry much if anything in that car.

^^actually, my friend has 2 of those amps, 1000-1 450-4
and they are both tucked away like his and do great, alpine pdx amps do pretty good without much air.
Also, a alpine guy confirmed it, when i spoke with one the other day, I cant wait to get my 2 pdx's

yeah apparently the old and new PDX are really good in tight quarters, even stacked, since they act like big heat sinks when joined. i've had mine since, i dunno, february of '08 or something and it has shown no issues whatsoever.

i was worried at first but from what i read they handle it well and at this stage i have to agree.

the real test would have been if i went ahead and got the 1.1000 to run next to my 4.150 in that tiny space! but i couldn't afford it.

yea, they are quite expensive. Im still playing with the idea of just getting the 5 channel and runing a single 12 or something.

I explained to him what amps i was looking to run, and he explained how well they work in confined areas. They were desgined to fit where no other amps could fit, and still make the same amount of power the big ones do.
my 2 channle is bigger then 2 of these sob's haha.

Alpines have a notorious noise issue.

For the money, nothing really touches sundown.

in the real world, in a car, especially in today's cars where people are integrating the factory stereo with cleansweeps and re-Qs, lab measurements like that don't always come into play. those ancillary components level the playing field. my car powered by a sundown amp or an alpine amp, you'd not be able to tell me which amp is notorious on the internet forums for noise - either one would make things sound awesome. if you are talking about case by case PDX noise issues it seems Alpine has purposely addressed this concern with the next generation, with claims of S/N ratios up to 95dB S/N @ 1W, 122dB S/N at rated power. but i have zero complaints about the SQ of my system, so i have no reason to be concerned about the next gen.

and the size/hiding capabilities of the pdx is quite an advantage over anything sundown makes. i have the room to run a pdx 4.150 and 1.1000 under that shelf, and they would run for as long as i need them doing the exact job i need them to do. i'd be hard pressed to fit the 4 channel sundown amp alone, in the spot where my current 4.150 sits.

i'm not hating on all the brands that have become popular on the pseudo-audiofile internet forums. they make some fantastic products for the price, like you say, but there is a certain place for them - they aren't everyones' solution.

they fixed the noise issues? NICE

i'll always stick by sundown, though.

I do have a jl hd 600/4 for my peerless sls 8's and the filters on them are a lil better and the crossovers are too..but it's almost double the price.

If someone is after extreme sq, they should be looking into brands like zapco, arc, audison, zed, image dymanics, and mcintosh

Not alpine or Jl audio.

they must have made some sort of change because everything i've read from them about the new PDX seems to mention the super clean signal to noise ratio, and over and over at that.

like i said, i've never heard of this issue outside of internet forums, or heard this issue in my car, haha, but i know people get crazy on the audio forums about stuff like that.

I love the placement of that amp BH. I like things to be hidden and subtle if possible.
