89 civic b swapped yet again another problem.
ok so i have recently put a gsr with ls transmssion in my 89 civic and last sunday was the maiden voyage for it. the car drove fine for about a half an hour and as i was driving my battery light came on so i pulled over to check what the deal was well the light went off and everything looked fine under the hood. so i went to leave and i couldnt get the car out of first so i started it and rolled it forward and it popped out of first but now with the clutch pressed in it wouldnt go into first. and now when the cars running it sound and feels like the motors going to fall out. in order to put it in reverse or first i would have to shut the car off put it in gear adn then start it again. so just to limp it home i rev matched the gear and once i got into second and third the transmission felt just fine besides the no clutch thing. im not sure what i got here would it be a bad transmission or should i change the clutch first adn see what it does n e help/ advice suggestions would be awesome.
thanks

I've had this before. I hate to say this, but you're going to have to pull your trans and replace the clutch disc and/or pressure plate.
Good luck

ok well i finally got my engine pulled and i seperated the engine and transmission to find out my flywheel is loose. so i pulled my clutch off and 3 flywheel bolts i just pulled out and the rest were ****ed also. what would cause this? and can i helicoil the threads on the crank?

Can you please be more specific about what happened? You unscrewed the pressure plate, then slid the clutch off and then what happened?
You can helicoil the crank threads, but I wouldn't trust it. There is way too much vibration, heat, and rotation going on in there to really trust them. If it were a stationary bolt away from extreme heat and vibration, then maybe (think transmission mount threads). But I personally would just replace the crank if the threads are ruined.
ok i undid the pressure plate and removed the clutch and there were 3 of the 8 bolts that were just hanging out i pulled them out i didnt need to unthread them and the rest were a PITA to get out. the threads on the crank look alright so tommorow im going to get new bolts and chase the threads and see if that works
ive driven with 3 half way unthreaded flywheel bolts for quite sometimes (without knowing =X) and i didnt have a problem with it. im sure that didnt cause it cause the other 5 was bolted down..

Pressure plate bolts are supposed to be a PITA to get out considering that they are supposed to be installed with locktite and with such a high torque setting. I think almost 90 ft-lbs.
Is it possible that someone messed with it before they gave it to you? I always separate the trans from the block when I buy a used motor just to check out the clutch anyway. Keep that in mind next time.
I think chasing the threads is a good idea. Inspect the bolts that fell out to see if they look cross-threaded or broken.
Also, now might be a good time to go ahead and have the flywheel resurfaced, and the clutch replaced if it looks like it is almost ready to go. Just think of how much work you had to do to get to it.
The answer to what probably caused your problem was that those bolts were pressing up against the back of your clutch plate and preventing it from disengaging.

when i origionally got the swap i disassembled the engine/tranny to check everything out the clutch looks new and i removed the flywheel to put the engine on a stand. when i seperated the engine/tranny yesterday the flywheel would wobble all the bolts were messed up and 3 were all the way out. i ordered new flywheel bolts today but idk what thread pitch they are so i dont want to get a tap until i know the correct thread pitch. i also drained the oil last night and didnt see any metal shavings so hopefully the bearings arent wasted.
also im going to buy a new clutch any ways and i was cruisin ebay yesterday and came across this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXEDY...item5ad8d8ed25 what do you guys think for the price and does any one know the quality.

got into the motor a lil bit more today to find out my brand new timing belts wasted. when the keyway sheared it let my belt walk and and burned into the timing covers
Why is your keyway sheared? And which keyway is it? This is starting to sound like a lemon. Ive never heard anything bad about exedy.
