I was planning planning on putting a Dohc ZC motor in my CRX(HF), (i'm just shopping around for the motor), but i found a dual cam D16a1 in a junkyard for sell and it looks alot like the ZC. How do theses engines differ? Will the D16 even drop in the CRX with out any changes? Is the money i'm going to spend on getting the JDM motor(like $650) gonig tobe worth it?

 

The D16A1 is not a direct replacement. It is very similar to the DOHC ZC (black top) but it is not the same. Motor mount location is different, power output is less on the D16A1, and there are a few other minor differences between the two.

People have successfully installed a D16A1 into an 88-91 chassis, if you want to see how it's done search for it. If you don't have some fabrication skills for a custom mount (driver's side) don't bother with it.

No one can really you tell you if anything will be worth it. You have to decide that for yourself. I can tell you from my personal experience that the DOHC ZC I've had in my car for the last ten years or so never let me down and never disappointed me but I've heard of other people who have had the same type of motor and had frequent problems with it.

One other thing is I'm pretty sure the D16A1 uses a different transmission. The DOHC ZC uses an L3 transmission like all the 88-91 Civics. (so if you need to get a transmission for your car, you have more options than just a D16A1 transmission)

 

nope just the back bolt mount on the block you have to grind it off and it will bolt up perfect with a ef tranny.
