Default SuperCharger vs Turbo's

I have a 96 Civic EX. I am new to the import scene and I am trying to decide between a SuperCharger or Turbo and I still want it to be a daily driver, just need to be able to have a little more fun!
Jackson Racing SuperCharger and Boost Upgrage Kit
or Something like DRAG Gen 3 Turbo Kit?

What are some pro's and con's to both?

Thanks to Anyone who can help me spend my Money

This topic has been covered many time. Use the search function in the top right hand corner and you will find more than enough information. If you just want a short and sweet answer...go with the turbo. If you need more indepth info use the search function.

Welcome to honda-tech. Yes this has been covered over and over but I would like to answer it. But I think it would be easier to direct you in the right direction since I could right a book...

From doing some searches Ive learned that the turbo is going to provide more power. Are turbo's as reliable for everyday driving compared to a SC?

This may sound dumb, but if I install a turbo, will I have to let my car cool after everytime i drive it(like with the turbo timer, i go into work, but my car is still running)?
Also, what all controlers go along with the turbo?
Boost Controler(which i just set the amount of boost I want), Turbo Timer, and ?
Also, what kind of maintance is there with a turbo?

Thanks for those who have helped so far, I greatly appriciate your HELP

I dont want to swap motors. My car is an auto to, but anyway. I have been doing a lot of searches on this and from that, I am leaning back towards the JRSC. Why? My car is a daily driver and am not going to be drag racing every weekend, but i want to be able to have some fun
Heres what I was thinking if i go with the JRSC-
Jackson Racing Supercharger
JR SuperCharger Boost Upgrades
JR V-Tech Controler
JR MAP Sensor Controler
JR Oil Cooler Kit
JR Intake

Not to extreme, but will allow for some more power, What are your opinions?
Nitrous Express "N-Ter" Cooler Chiller System to?

I still havent ruled out the turbo.
Does anyone know what the boost is at in this graph on importparts.com website?
if i went with this kit, what else would i need? Turbo Timer and Boost Controler?

It wont let me post anymore, its says i cant post more than 5post in 24hrs. So, if you read this...lol
Where would i be able to buy a DOHC or GSR? and also, im not trying to have the fastest car, would the SOHC hold up if i put a Drag Gen3 Turbo Kit on there? i mean 203hp isnt to bad according to that graph.....quikb20 i see your in dallas, what r some good performance shops int he metroplex, i am only about 2 hours from there. This will be the closest place to getstuff done to my car?

Not trying to burst your bubble man but if u keep that motor and s/c it your competition will be gsr's and si's with bolt ons. To me the $$ you spend on the s/c or turbo could have gotten you a swap in the civic. SO what im saying is do you want to spend 3 grand or so on FI on your motor or spend 3 grand on a motor swap and be ahead of that league already. Then s/c or turbo where of course i say go turbo.

So if i was you i say get a gsr swap or ls whichever you have $$ for and then research the poooppoooo out of turbo so that you get it right the first time. This hobby is a huge $$ pit so you dont want to make mistakes because they are very costly.

I have went thru so many setups and its expensive so research research research and if u want to make any power you gotta ditch that sohc, but let us know what your goals are for the car.

I have a 94 civic ex with an apexi ball bearing turbo kit. My car is an auto also. Im at full boost by 3000 rpm. Ball bearing turbos are not as susceptable to oil coking as regular turbos.

Have you ever been in a turbo sohc car? So how do you know its not fun. I havent raced the car all that much but Id say the car is low 15s. I dont have any timeslips, but Id say its a fair guess from the cars that I have. I have a 96 integra LS that is currently being switched to turbo, but anyways.. It had CAI/H/E, underdrive pulley, msd ignition and adjustable fpr and the auto walks all over it. Its much faster. So fun levels.. Id say its just fine and has plenty more in store with an intercooler and higher pressure.

Just my opinion, but I wouldnt be happy with a low 15 second turbocharged car. Not worth the price of admission, or the show.

Thanks jinx,

Pogi yes ive been in a sohc turbo and it felt the way my stock gs-r did what fun is that. Oh and then add an auto trany into that omg now that is boring im sorry. I talked to JeffW today for a lil while on aim and i think hes considering doing a swap. Anyhow im not trying to rag on your car or anything, but its alot of $$ to spend to be disapointed.

Give me a break Iggy I was running at 5psi that day. Plus it was hot! With the set up you have now I wouldn't waste my money on a turbo. A stock SOHC engine with a turbo kit running 5-7psi does feel like a stock GSR. I said the exact same words to Iggy a couple of months ago when I took him for a ride. If you have the cash buy the swap. Only reason I didn't is because I couldn't afford it and I got a good deal on the turbo kit I have (greddy mind you).

If you are deadset on doing it at least switch out the tranny to a manual. You can make a SOHC fairly quick but not on a stock engine.

Good luck...

MArc i wasnt talking bout ur car, theres a guy who has a red civic in dallas sohc turbo i knew you were on low boost that day, the guy said a swap was in his budget so he'll proly do that. Mostly its that auto tranny that will kill the car.
