Default what shocks to go with (non-koni gc)

I was able to pick up a set of mint GC for $50. These are OTS spring rates of 380F/250R
These are the non-koni GC. I would love to go with koni yellow but that's not a choice for me now.

What other shocks would work decently well and last a while.
I only drive my EF gsr 2-3 months out of the year, slight drag racing but more road racing.

- blisten
- kyb agx
- tokico
-.... other options?

Bilstens are great, tokico illumnia's are also very good, but I belive both of those shocks prices are right around what a koni would be.

they will work on the koni str.t which actually is a good cheap match for those rates. $299 shipped. if you want adjustable either the kyb agx or illumina is a good shock, between those i don;t have much of a preference, both are decent pieces.

just incase someone says hey, wait, these aren't for konis, well that's true with the sport since they don't have oem style shelfs. the str.t does and is created like an oem replacement with welded on plates thus it's fine to use with what are called non koni gc's

and why not again? just because they're not made for the koni yellows doesn't mean that it won't work. the sleeve's will have to just sit on the collars like any other coilover sleeve.

That isn't a safe setup.

The Koni Sport doesn't have a fixed spring perch like a typical shock, and anything sitting on the circlip needs to both hold the circlip in place and spread the load correctly on it. Running a GC sleeve on top of the spring perch won't do this.

i know in the pic that the spring perch is upside down, but couldn't the sleeve just sit on top of that? or am i doing it wrong?

Not if you want it to guarantee it will stay intact while driving, or if you want to keep your warranty.

there was a thread years ago with picture of what happens when you don't use the correct sleeves on koni's...

It wasn't pretty

the bounce off is the risk, you go over some railroad tracks too fast and you may come down with no spring. very dangerous game to play

the agx and illumina are both solid choices. see what you can get for prices and get the cheaper of the two. if you need an adjustable shock, either will work. for a non adjustable the koni str.t is very hard to beat.

i had illuminas and i now run the EIbach Pro-Damper. Both are awesome dampers. Im 99% sure the Eibach is the same as the Koni STR.T. Both made in argentina, both look identical and both have the normal welded spring perch.
