Default M/T ET Street Radial vs. BFG Drag Radial (235/60R15)

I know the M&H 235/60R15 bias plies are the best option for traction and straight line acceleration. Long story short due to a warranty issue, the M&H's aren't an option for me.

These will be on a 489whp DC2.

Which do you reccommend? Pros and cons?

Thanks

MT.

the BFG 235/60 old school pattern is no bueno imo compared to other options out there. had them on a street car out here and they barely held up at 450hp on a 2900lb car.

I see so many tire threads. What makes your 500whp car any different from any other one?

I used the MT ET Streets in that size on my DSM, x4 of them, there heavy.. and there not that great. 27lbs

Use a Hoosier QTP in 26x9.5x15. There cheaper, and 10lbs lighter per tire, and you can run them down at much lower pressures, they will be easier on your driveline.

There's absolutely nothing different about my car. If it were up to me I'd get the M&Hs, call it a day and there would not be this thread. I didn't realize BFG made a 235/60-15 drag tire… Show me a thread that talks about this tire and not the 225/50s. This is a specific comparison for the options available to me. Rarely have I heard people recommend Hoosier for a drag application.

I’ll look into it, thank you for the recommendation and telling me your experience

** Edit. I was able to find one from 2008: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...light=235%2F60 **

The hoosier's seem to be a hot thing now a days seen a bunch of canadian cars run them not that many in the Us. Haven't heard how good from anyone but they seem to have alot of hype.

Damn it! Mixed reviews on the ET streets... Do you think you had better results because you're RWD? Ever tried them on a FWD car?

OP, this above poster recommended me Hoosier QTP's....i took his advice and got em.

i made a thread similar to yours bout 2months ago in this section. search for it.

anyways, my QTP's hook about as good as a DR (bias-ply at that) will get on the street.

im prolly around 600hp on moderate boost, and it hooks just fine brakeboosting to 30psi from a 3rd gear roll.

w/ higher boost she spins, but id expect it to, even w/ the tires warmed up and aired down to 9psi.

i love my QTP's, and would buy again.

ET's are good ****. they work well. they are not as soft as the qtp's tho.

and yes, BFG has a 235/60/15. they are a different tread pattern than the standard 225/50/15 pattern. they suck tho.

I hated the BFG in that size. I have the MT ET street radial. On high boost and almost 600whp they spin in 3rd, but around your power level they hook great. I run mine over 400whp every day and I have almost no traction issues

The 235/60/15 BFG is not even closely related to the tread pattern on their normal "drag radial", might as well run a standard radial if you decide to run that tire.

What is this "warranty issue" with M&H?

X2!!! But I really do wish we could get a 235/50 or something shorter than 25"s tall.

I have heard the QTP Hoosier tires dont really take to street use like some of the drag radials (m/t, bfg, etc) out there that are a little more durable, albiet also heavier. Anyone care to comment since I see alot of people saying they use them?

On the specific 2 brand mentioned by the OP, I think the M/T is the better route to go. The consensus seems to be they hook better and the wear about the same or slightly better than the BFG.

.

they are very light..and because they are very light, they are pretty thin. I'd think it'd be easy(er) to puncture them if used on the street.

that is just factor you have to consider for more traction. less life for more traction.
so far tho, my qtp's saw good amount of street time, lots of spinning, and abuse and they still are lookin good.

I wont even consider another tire again (for fwd street duty purposes, that is). When these tires are toast, I will gladly order another set.

Sounds awesome. Nice lookin ride thanks for the pic. I’ll see if the hoosiers are an option for me. How’s the tread life compared to the M/T’s?

A guy on another thread said he thought the ET streets felt dangerous at high speed and his braking sucked. Experience the same?

Not at all. I cant lie and say braking is goin to be as good as it would be on a 225/50/15 but remember you are stopping a lot of tire with the 235/60. I would not think twice about using these at the strip trapping under 140mph.

As far as dangerous at high speeds I havn't seen that at all. Granted I haven't run them at the track but I drove on them for a few trips and cruising at 80mph or a bit higher they have been great. I have run 235/60/15 in the BFG, M&H, and now MT and the MT is the best radial constructed tire traction wise and the best tire overall in highway stability.

That's good to hear. I'm going to see which are available to me and maybe decide on price, or tread life based on pumpking's experience

I hope you never get caught in the rain with QTP's. That is why I never bought them. Just too little tread for me to feel comfortable on the street or on longer drives with them

It's not a daily driver so it will rarely see rain. Dry traction and high speed stability are more important.

that goes for ANY bias-ply dr.

if you need a 26" tall bias-ply type of DR (600+) chances are it's more of a street warrior than a DD. not sure why you'd be doing long distances drives and driving in rain w/ bias-ply DOT's, lol

I drove M&H bias ply DOT's daily for 8 months a year for 3 years. Never had one issue at all. I built my car to drive it and wanted a good tire for traction and DOT approved and it fit the bill perfectly

If you are looking at Hoosier QTPs, why not M/T ET Street Drags? Same tread design, been around a lot longer, and I have heard most RWD guys say that they hook almost as good as M/T ET Drags themselves.

Talk about some crap. On my way home from they dyno I went through a construction zone. 45mph and a change in pavement height cracked my front two wheels and blew my tires out. I bought them through DiscountTire so they're giving me free tires. But.... They can't get M&H's, that's why I'm stuck getting another brand.

Decision time's today. Any last advice?

This thread was started about the ET streets as an option. Im not aware of the "ET Street Drags." They only list MT ET Streets, ET Street Radial and ET Street Radial II on their site

He is talking about Bias ply ET streets. I think the smallest is a 26x10.5x15 but honestly they will hook better than hoosier and if you rarely drive the car it shouldnt be an issue. Just make sure you have spacers or a wheel with an offset that will keep them from rubbing really bad.
