Default 1990 accord ex with heater/AC problem

Hi there; I am having a problem getting the temperature selector for my heater/AC to turn the heat all the way off. I turn the selector
counter-clockwise, to it's coldest setting, and I am still getting heat from the vents. When I turn on the AC I am still getting a bit of the heat, though if I giggle the selector I can sometimes get it to cool a bit more. Could you give me a bit of advice before I take my dash apart.
Thank you.

I would check heater valve adjustment. Look for the heater valve control cable sheath and make sure it hasn't slipped out of it's clips or moved a little bit.

Also check the position of the heater control valve in the engine bay and try to turn it fully closed manually and see if it is fully closing it.
