Default 2000 high comp. mini me. Advice!!!

Whats going on?! I've got a 2000 civic dx. I know its a d16y7. I just bought a p2j-6 head (stamped on the exhaust side of the head), which i was told is a Y8 head. Also got the y8 intake manifold. Both at a great price. Anyways, I want to go high compression, and just like the rest of us, im on a budget. I really dont beat up on my car, but I like knowing I wont have a problem if I do. its my DD, and I would love to be able to take it to 8k rpm with the vtec screaming!!!! Any advice would be great thanks...also in the future before i put this head on, I will be taking it to a machine shop, for inspection and possible port and polish. Advice on head parts also needed. Thanks again!!!

Unless you plan to boost it, i would not spend to much money on that d series engine. Playing with heads, porting, changing compression, tuning will generally not make as much power as just a simple B18B non vtec dohc swap....something to think about

if you wanna go cheap, you could do pistons and connecting rods from a zc motor and a stock head gasket and you should be around a 10.76:1 compression. my advice your be to put a block guard in as well.

I appreciate the advice. I also read somewhere about LS rods with i forgot what pistons b/c of clearance issues...anyways, ive never really seen how the block guard works. It goes in between the block and head??? Head gasket still needed? I've seen these Cometic head gaskets that are thicker. Would that help raise compression as well????

thicker hg's lower compression. thinner ones increase it.

i'm with deetz on this. you will almost certainly spend more money and see less gains trying to build the d-series n/a in comparison to just swapping to an ls.

i did the mini me swap and i was on a budget too. but i ended up spending as much money as a b series swap would be minus labor. but it definitely has alot more power than it did. it was worth it, than again, it wasnt at the same time. but im not telling you that you shouldnt do it. nobody has built d series motors. but dohc is def the way to go unless turboed. but goodluck on the mini me swap!

i see nothing budget about this. port n polish isnt cheap and getting that motor rebuilt isnt gonna be too cheap either. your better off putting a turbo on it and calling it a day. i daily drive my boosted d with a stock block with no problems. they can take up to 200hp reliably.
