Eh body damage doesn't mean much of anything. The car could be mechanically perfect, not everyone cares about what their car looks like (including me, although I'd never drive a PY).

Maybe that's what it takes to make an ITR survive in that hellhole state

So you'd be fine driving around with a car that has red tape over the taillights, beat up rear bumper/quaterpanel and spray painted wheels?

Sure, you often see cars like that...but most of the owners can't afford to get the car fixed. And/or the car is a 88 Nissan or something (worth about $750 total) and the owner doesn't really give a crap.

Even if that ITR has over 100K miles, it is probably still worth at least $10K.

Well I'd hammer it out to at least mount a replacement tail light. I'd even consider priming and rattle canning the paint to prevent rust.

Spray painted wheels aren't all that much different from my brake pad dust coated wheels

Body damage really doesn't bother me at all as long as it's cosmetic only.

The rest of that car looks clean from the pics, so I'd guess that damage isn't very old. Unless you keep up with rust prevention it only takes a few days for that surface rust to set in.

They are like any other car. That's one of the great things about these cars, they can be daily driven, and tracked, with no real changes and are so practical that there's very little reason to need another car. In reality, the only reason is theft if you are paranoid.

I split my DD time between my ITR and GS-R (both arguably theft targets) and part them at malls, stores, etc. I've taken some security steps to help keep the car in my possession but..

I love my ITR, but it won't control my life to that extent. If I wrecked it, but only with cosmetic damage, I wouldn't bother fixing it either. Plus, a rusty beat up car might keep some theives away.

Why? Because he understands there is more to life then a car? Or is it because he enjoys it everyday?

As long as the thing still functions like it is supposed to, who cares what it looks like. And as a DD, you are going to have arseclowns door ding you or you might hit an occasional deer. Doesn't mean you don't take care of it. Keeping it in top mechanical shape is #1 priority!

LOL that's pretty funny.

My cars stay as close to perfect mechanically as possible. I'll replace parts as preventive maintenance before anything breaks.

Paint and a perfectly straight body are just not as important to me as the cars setup and mechanical condition.

If that means that you believe I don't deserve to own an ITR, so be it. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

If you are at expo you can see my car in person and laugh at how it hasn't been washed in months, at the OEM wheels that are grayish from brake dust, etc.

I'll be enjoying the car on track where it belongs, assuming I actually have time to do so.

I hope you're joking.

So he drives his ITR anytime like a normal person and at the same time takes security precautions without letting the fear of losing his car take control of him. He obviously cares more about the function of his car rather than minor cosmetic damages, yet you're telling him he doesn't deserve an R?

What happened to the respect in this community?
