B18C5 w/Buddy Club Camshaft Kit w/various other ?'s
This will be a B81C5 stock motor, which I will be raising it's compression ratio w/Buddy Club head gasket, Spec III camshaft, and Cam Gear combo. There won't be any upgrading of the B18C5 bottom end. I've read various statements that the Buddy Club valve springs aren't needed, can anyone confirm this statement to be true and why? I will not be revving my RPM's past 9k, I'd like to get a good tune 1st and see what type of power I'd be making. It is possible to achieve 200+hp w/o hondata s300 along with I/H/E? I am I better off w/the hondata s300 that way I could set VTEC engament lower I.E. 5k to a 8.5K-8.9k red line, along with controlling the car's A/F ratio? The goal is to keep the car as "street able", w/o sacrificing reliability, is it possible to aheive 200+hp & 150lbs torque w/this set-up? Looking for experienced tuners recommendations to above questions that have built set-ups similar to this. All of these items will be put in all at once, thank you for your time & input.
its a streetable cam. stock itr valvetrain is fine no need to upgrade. I think your end results will depend on your i/h/e set-up. Power cut off around 8400-8500. My b18c I went with 3" intake. itr t/b and i/m ported. hytech rep to 2.75 test and exhaust. s300. Its a good cam for dd.
Every cam other than VTEC killers are streetable with correct tuning. The BC3's are a very nice cam to use on the street in a daily driver. You can run them on the stock ITR valvetrain but not past stock redline. If reliability is what you are after, CHANGE your valve springs or you will spend a lot of money later, trust me. You will need a tuning system like an S300 if you have any hope of even coming close to the magical 200 whp. In fact you will need a number of other good supporting mods like header, exhaust, intake etc.
I will purchase a Mugen Air Intake System, Fujitsubo RM-01A, 2.5 test pipe or aftermarket cat. I'm unsure about a exhaust manifold, I am considering a Buddy Club Header, along w/a thermal TB & IM gaskets. As far a porting the B18C5 head, I may micro polish it to get better air flow. Correct me if I'm wrong, would the above listed items get me my desired results?
The Mugen intake is $$$ and it's good but out of everything I have ever tested or seen tested, it's hard to beat a 3" CAI like AEM or equivalent. That exhaust is decent, test pipe is fine if you don't want to use a high flow cat and so are the gaskets etc. The Type R head is great the way it is unless it has a lot of mileage on it and needs a new valve job. I'd send it to a head porter like CCCylinderheads for a good valvejob etc and go with that. I think the buddy Club header is another copy of the Hytech header out there? If so, it's good but probably more money than the cheaper copies. SMSP makes some good headers and is in Virginia, have a look at what he offers and see if it's in your price range. With some good tuning you should be up in the 190whp I would think, it all depends on how the dyno you're on reads.
