Default My Northwest EF Build

So.... i bought this EF a few months back with a blown up b series in it i guess the guy who owned the car before me purchased this engine from his friend who worked at ground zero what the previous owner i guess didn't know is that they just really weren't that good of friends so he was sold a b16 with eagle rods with wiesco low compression pistons pretty decent build but the motor only ran 4 hours because they had the crank turned and used stock sized bearings in the bottom end so you can only imagine what happened..... this is the car when i first picked it up....

also i need to throw out some thanks on this one this is my first full build ive done a few turbo cars but not a full build and not a NA so thanks to:
Charlie
Nathan
Brian nathan's neighbor
Evo man (John)
Victor (My Bro)
My Dad

after thinking of what i should put in this bad boy and after doing boosted cars over the last couple summers i decided i should build an all motor car this summer, so the hunt began for parts while sitting at home pondering one day my buddy called me he was gonna move and needed to liquidate everything he has so i drove 3 hours to his house and he made me a pretty amazing deal on a ls motor with a chipped piston, a b20 b motor that was boosted and had a few cracks in in the sleeve very small ones and a perfectly good sir II b16 with p30s with under 40k that was in a rhd halfcut, a set of 97 spec type r cams and valve train, a type r intake manifold, a ls vtec kit that was on the turbo b20, and a set of arp head stud bolts missing all the nuts and washers lol.......

so i came home and i pulled the ls apart and it was a beatiful block so i decided thats what i was gonna use the down fall was it spun a bearing.....

so i pulled the b20 apart flawless rods and crank beautiful actually nicest i've ever seen in person lol.. so i decided i'd use these in the ls block.... when i went to go remove the crank i found a stripped the hell out flywheel bolt :0 but no worries me and a few buddies PROPS to nates welding... brians co-piloting and welder and me sack and evo man standing around and watching we got it out heres a pic lol dont worry we did it in super small spot welds so we didnt transfer heat through the crank and warp it... this is how us oregon boys do thangs lmao..... not to mention three of the guys i mentioned above race hondas aswell on a dirt track lol sick cars and thanks for all the help you guys

so i turned my attention to the b16 i wanted the p30's out of this engine so i pulled the whole thing apart and had just the pistons and rods. after this i called it a night

the next morning i rolled over to the local machine shop ordered a set of arp rod bolt and dropped of the b20 crank and rods and had him press the b20 pistons of the rods then i pulled out the b16 pistons and rods and had him do the same we indexed the rods and i told him i want the 1.6 piston on the pr4 rods and the rod bolts installed as wheel i wanted the pistons magnafluxed and the rods shot peened and everything balanced the best he could a few days later this is what i picked up....

Now was the next step now i know a lot of people may like using oil to coat the cylinders walls and have always have had a good experience with ring seat that way but with us we do not do it that way any more picked up on a trick from a write up Larry at endyne were he used a old nascar trick were they would put the most aggressive cross hatch they could and use wd-40 to coat the cylinder walls with and what this did was one engine start up it created friction and just dug the rings into the cross hatch and most the time you got an awesome ring seal so in this case we went this route and began to install the pistons rings....

so after getting it in the car it idled at 2k which is not good when your trying to brake in a motor and it wasn't the throttle body and it smoked super super bad but i put the new shoes on it and got some pics.... i'm not really digging the wheels i thought it would look better then it does in my head lol so i'm considering purchasing a set of white rota track r's or trading some one for a new set of wheels these have brand new 50 series rubber on them 195/50r15
or rockin these till i can get some baller wheels likes some mugens or something i dont know

so here is whats goin on at this piont i pulled the head back of and i found oil on the back side of the throttle body and in the type r intake manifold so that lead me to believe in was valve stem seals so i pulled the head back of and sent it to the machine shop who might i add is one of the most amazing guys i have ever spoke to when it comes to motor i would suggest him any day hes local here in central oregon but he has everything including a flow bench and he does awesome work for amazing prices and hes a genius lol he owns rocket engineering in prineville oregon its worth the travel..... so i havent taken pics of how the cars sitting right now but here is pics off the head i just got back a few days ago after he fixed it and found out i had four bent valves besides the two i already had replaced in the first.... so he replaced the valves and did a 3 angle valve job and repleced the valve stems seals through to whole head installed factory dual stage valve springs and milled the head and cleaned the head and gave it back in less then a week..... Also i found out that i forgot to tighten the intake manifold bolts lol and i figure thats was the cause for my high idle problem.....
