Default H22 questions

I've got a 2000 Prelude SH. The harmonic balancer bolt has seized itself in the crank and the pulley is spinning freely which I'm sure you all know, isnt supposed to happen. I've got a H22 from a 1997 Prelude. Not an SH, just a regular Prelude. I've heard there are troubles matching up the 1997 H22 to the 2000 SH transmissions. Is there any truth to this? If so what kind of problems should I expect? Why wont they match up or why will they? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Ive wouldnt see why not. You should have everything you need to make it work off the other block.

Bolt patterns for trannies are the same.

I do thing the headers fit differently on SH vs NonSh

Because the normal h22 has an intermediate shaft to supply the power to the drivers side axle. And the SH h22 has an ATTS unit to supply power to the driver side axle. The ATTS unit and the intermediate shaft do not have the same bolt pattern.

So the atts and the inter shaft bolt up differently on the block? Is there any way to just use the inter shaft and take out the atts?

oh yeah i remember that place... trying to think of the guy that owned it. his lastname started with a P..... anyways there is a kind of ghetto way of using the sh block and intermediate shaft. Its a plate that you would have to make that would bolt to the holes on the block and then you would drill hole that match the intermediate shaft into the plate..... i dont like the idea of it..

Which owner we had like 3 while i worked there. Ed Janiki, Jeremy Worthy, then Rob. I dont know Robs last name but he was the bartender. So basically an *** load of work. Is there any way I could just use the crankshaft from the non sh block and put it in the sh block? If I can just do that it wont matter about switching blocks. I just have to keep that damn pulley from free spinning and that bolt is taking a ton of *** to get out.

Nick Burden
What year is your block. i think after 97 the main bearing went from 50mm to 55mm so you will have to watch that. Just come to the OBX see some old friends and ill sell you one of my short blocks :p

Jared Payne. Ill trade you this whole 97 Motor for a good 2000 short block if you've got one. And I'll even bring it to you.

Dont mean to step in here on your little reunion here.

But you say that your crank pulley is just spinning freely.

Did you check to see if the key for the crank pulley is still in there?

I know its not, but I cant get the pulley off to put a new one in its place. Plus I'm not sure wether it tore up the crank or the back side of the pulley. The bolt is seized into the crank and I havent gotten the pulley off yet.

it will come out. you should look into chain visegrips. you can put that around the pully then use a braker bar with a cheater bar to break the bolt.

I've tried twice to get it out. I've put 100psi and an impact gun to it, and taken a hammer and rachet to it, it still hasnt come out. I'm going to have to heat it up to get it out. And i wasnt talking about trading the sh block, the regular 97 prelude motor for a sh block. Or if you have a good SH crankshaft you would sell that will work too.

How am i supposed to use chain visegrips on this thing when the pulley free wheels haha. The crank will turn and the pulley will sit still. I custom made a tool for getting crank pulleys off the b18's and h22's. Just a big *** nut that fits in the octogon shapped opening welded to a steel plate with a hole in it to get a rachet through. This thing is seriously just ****ed up.

Thats what i was talking about doing to start with and the atts and inter shaft thing was brought up. I was going to put the 97 block in with the 2000 sh head and bolt it to the 2000 sh tranny.

I dont know how a crank bolt can seize up. I have had crank bolts sheer off at the head before. But never seize. It doesnt make an mechanical sense. A crank or moving part can seize. The spinning crank will torque the bolt itself down to over 300lbs over time.

Are you sure that you just aren't giving it enough muscle to get off?

I snapped the timming belt if that tells you anything. I had someone hold the brakes with the car in gear and tried loosening the bolt, and as i did the belt snapped. So I'd say I was putting pretty good *** behind it.

And there is that same tool for these crank pulleys as well.

Another more risky thing to is take the dust sheild off the tranny, wedge a metal bar into the flywheel teeth, and lower the car onto the bar so that you put pressure on the engine so it doesnt turn.

I'm at the point now, i'm probably going to cut the head of the bolt off and unholt the crank from the block and put a new crank in. It seems so much easier that way haha. DSMs are so much easier. Its four 12mm bolts and that pulley is off.

Never owned anything with a 7bolt so no need to worry about crank walk. My 92 is the best thing I've ever owned not to mention the fastest. But seriously, do you have a crank that would fit this car or know anyone that does?

no i dont. But you might want to check your 97 crank. i think some of the later 97 blocks have 55mm mains. I know for a fact your 2000 will have 55mm. And good point about the vise grip chain lol i forgot ur pully is just spinning lol.
