Default Vtec Solenoids

My vtec solenoid on my D15B went bad. I'm trying to find out what solenoids are compatible. Anybody know off hand. I tried researching but I'm at work and so much is blocked it's very hard to search.

D16 compatible?

B16 compatible?

Or only another 1.5 SOHC will work?

hAlp me please! I'm very tired of my CEL coming on every day.

take your solenoid off and see if the screen is dirty, if its clogged then clean it an reinstall and see if that clears your check engine light

if it doesnt clear the code then any vtec solenoid from a d or b series engine should work

Cleaning would probably solve your problem, unless it's actually broken off or something.

From the research i have seen, many people say that D, B and H series are all inter changable

The D16Y8 won't work, but a D16Z6 or B16/18 will.

You can't "upgrade".

You need to research what vtec actually is. It's not a turbo for your honda and there is not bigger upgrade on your vtec.

As for the people that said they are all interchangeable, they are not. And I need a new solenoid all together. I've already taken mine off and cleaned it.

Thanks for the input. So basically the d16y8 is the ONLY one that doesn't work huh? Handy. Somebody from another forum sent me a solenoid, but it doesn't even fit properly.

Well, to get technical, there is VTEC - E and i - VTEC.

I want to say the D15Z1 VTEC-E solenoid should be the same as the Z6 VTEC. And as far as I-VTEC, idk what has that offhand. The 3 stage VTEC is an oddball.

If we want to get technical, the D16Z6 solenoid is not the same as the B series. Both will work on either D or B series motors, but they look different.

But changing a solenoid does not change that. One is not a bigger vtec than the other. It is the same technology designed for two entirely different purposes.

Great, now you've confused me. I'm going to post pics of both my solenoids later. One does not fit the same as the other and does not fully bolt up.

just buy another d15 v-tec e solenoid and u wont have any problems. why make it so difficult. the way it works is alil diff then the other solenoids. a y8 would probably be the closest to matching since it was a solenoid from a 96+. anything before 96 has the same solenoid and some b series fit them as well. such as a b series will fit a z6 but thier is no advantage from it what so ever

What I'm grasping here is that any vtec e solenoid will work is that correct? The reason I was asking about which ones is because I'm a cheap *** and I've been searching the forums for some, or craigslist, or the salvage yard. I didn't really want to spend the money to purchase one from the dealer.

Yes sir, did exactly that. Just don't want to spend $10 or $20 on one to find out I didn't do enough research and it's the wrong one.

Thanks for the help everyone.
