Bad oil pump????
There is this civic coupe with a b16 in it and he said the oil pump went out on it. Call me a newbie but should a buy the car and jus replace the oil pump or will there be more serious problems?
Dont be scared to get your hands dirty, I would buy it and be more than glad to change what ever it needs to bring it back to life. an oil pump is no big deal.
Keep in mind the oil gets hotter and thinner as you beat on the car who knows if the previous owner raped the hell out of that mighty b16. The burning oil could be from the EXTERIOR of the exhaust and not necessary internalyl and being pushed out the exhaust. More than likely that's what's happening according to the guy thats selling it to you.
As far as what should you look for? Oil on the outside! It could be coming out of the PCV valve seat or the O-ring that seals the black box. Double check those. If it's not there, look at the Oil Pressure Switch or anything else back there (gauge lines or whatever) to pin point.

the oil pump went out - failed.
if the engine is locked up, then it is done and in need of a rebuild. no oil pump is saving that one...
leak - sure, buy it and replace the pump...

oil pump going out to me means all oil pressure was lost and the engine either spun a rod bearing or locked up catstrophically. i would steer clear of it unless you have every intention of doing a complete overhaul of the engine.
