Ideas on these odd quirks from my 97' Del Sol
I bought a 97' Del sol last year (my second one). Usually in the warmer parts of the year/weather, while at a stop (in drive), it idles rough. Dropping down on the RPM meter to almost nothing. Seeming as if its bout to die. It seems to never act up when in colder weather (obviously due to a high idle in cold weather). Is there a way to fix this? Something to turn the idle up? By the way it is an automatic (booooooooooooooo, I know, lol).
My other question is...
When I bought this Del Sol it seemed that when it shifts into all the gears, it would shift kinda hard. I had a 93' a couple years ago and never remembered the shifting to be so hard. Did Honda change anything between the 93 an 97? The hard shifting doesn't seem to hurt to car, and it's not so hard the it hurts the neck. But it just seems a little more rough. Is this normal for a 97 Del Sol? Again this is an auto Del Sol.
Thanks for any responses!

To start with the low idle, I would recommend removing the throttle body and cleaning it well along with the IACV on the back of the intake manifold.
Before I bought it my cousin (who is fairly mechanical), said it seemed normal when shifting and gave me the okay to buy it. But from having a 93' del sol a couple years before, its seemed a little too different when shifting... hmmmmm. I dunno, just figured Honda made mods to it in later years to have a little bit tighter shift.

How old are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?
Try draining the ATF and replacing with Honda or Honda-recommended ATF. Do this drain and refill 2-3 times with a short drive in between.

sucks not being mechanically inclined, lol
The distributor cap is where the spark plug wires run to. Remove 3 bolts to get the cap off. Inspect the contact points inside the cap and on the edge of the rotor.
Draining the ATF is simple -- remove drain bolt. Buy a plastic container from Walmart to collect the old oil and then refill to the Full mark.

I'm afraid I'd mess up my car if I took that part apart in the diagram. The most I've done on my car is an oil change, headlight replacement, stuff like that, (i'm such a rookie to this type of stuff.). I may be able to master the ATF change. Think the change will help it shift better? Can I get Honda ATF at autozone or would I have to go to a Honda dealer?
