Default Sway bar "backplate" question

I am going to be installing a sway bar on my DX and I just got the SI brackets. I was wondering if i modify the integra ones that I have can I use them as a backplate reinforcing my subframe slightly and eliminating the pain of maneuvering bolts in that space?

I was thinking of cutting it in half and using the flat side with the threaded holes so i don't have to mess with bolts. Would this give me more strength than washers? Would it work?

PS: Not my pic, I am at work.

Its not really going to matter... I dont see 1/16" of stamped steel adding much reinforcement to your subframe.

What size bar are you using? You most likely arent even going to need any kind of bracing.

I used 4 10mm bolts and lock washers on the back, when I put my si on my car.
I reccomend you do it that way, you will need to drill out the hole in the mount a bit for the bolt to fit threw, it really isn't difficult. Cutting it in half will be harder, just do it the right way.

Anything smaller then 18mm no brace is needed, infact asr's are made to work with 22mm and up bars, 13mm's will not just bolt on

I am using an Integra sway bar. It is the 14mm. I just figured the plate would be better becasue it has pre tapped holes and has more surface area than a washer so it will distribute any forces over a wider area. Also, 98civdx...how much of a difference in handling does the si bar make?

Pretty big difference, over stock with no sway bars.
I also have a 26mm front sway bar. Theres a bit of body roll, but it's not anywhere near the way it was before.
I will be getting a bigger rear bar though.

The tapped holes, make it pretty much a peice of cake to install the d bracket, onto the bracket with the tapped holes.

The way it comes on si's the subframe is actually threaded, and that bracket bolts to it.
A nut and bolt, is dang near the same.

If needed i can post pics of how i have mine, if it will help.

I know that the SI and the integra came with bolts welded to the subframe for mounting of that bracket and i just figured since I have the integra brackets laying around it would help me strengthen my subframe a bit if I just modified them becasue the flat surface of that bracket is a hell of alot bigger than a washer. So are you just saying don't bother?

thats exactly how i did it, and tried to tell you to do lol...

Only diff i used a 10mm bolt to go threw the mount to subframe, i did have to drill out the mount hole a bit.

I knew that is what you were telling me to do but I just figured that I had thought of a idea that would reinforce the subframe a bit and be convenient. Why did you go with a 10mm bolt?

I felt the 8mm was a little to small for the hole in the subframe, The hole in the subframe is like a 11mm which i couldnt find to save my life. The main reason is i wanted it a tight fit, which my dad and i both felt a 8mm wouldnt do it.

No, Dont want sway bars that bad

The guy at ace was trying to talk me into though, about 6 trips to ace in one day looking for bolts to fit. I looked at almost every bolt option i had.

So, I should be safe from subframe tearout if I am just using a 14mm bar right? I have seen the aftermath of a tear out and it is ugly

me too, my freind went through the hell of replaceing one, which was even more ugly, somewhere around 85 spot welds.

Yes, you will be perfectly fine without a brace.

Just installed it last night, there is a big difference in understeer, I feel like I can point it at any point in the turn I want to without running wide.
