F22B1 vs F23 VTEC cyl head
ok so i am about to purchase one of two cyl heads for my non-Vtec F22B2. i was offered a good deal on a F23 Vtec cyl head, but previously was only looking for the F22B1 cyl head. i am curious to know if there are any differences between the two at all and what they are if so. please and thank you!!
They are different. Starting with the cylinder size, the f23 combustion chamber is 1mm wider than the f22b1. I believe the valves and springs are the same on both, but as i just mentioned, that's one difference between the 2 that i know of. Other than that, they are very similar. In fact, an exhaust manifold for f22b1 will fit the f23 head without a problem.
good stuff to know! thanks alot man. so i bet that makes a difference in compression. most likely dropping it just a lil bit. anybody else know of any differences?
I'm not sure about the size of the combustion chamber itself, but i know the head was meant to clear a piston that is 1mm wider.
Check out the specs on wikipedia, just type honda engine's and follow up on "f series".

I stopped using wikipedia for car information after they were wrong about 2 too many Hondas, and the history of the rotary engine. they **** me off. but yeah im def going to be checking that out if i go to look at this F23 cyl head.
Why not an F22A6 head? Just a thought. I'll let GhostAccord chime in on this one; since, he knows more about the F22 SOHC Non VTEC.
It's really up to you.

i used to have an F22A1 with an A6 head and exhaust mani and loved the hell out of it, very noticable jump in torque. the reason i am going with a VTEC head is simply because its something i've wanted to do for a while now, just so i can say i've had one. anywho, i did already buy an F22B1 head this friday but am still curious about what the differences are between that and the F23 head.
