EM1 or EP3?
Hey guys. I have a 98 ej8, and I'm sick of not having any power. So I'm saving my Money and I'm gonna buy a new car near the end of summer. I'm in between an ep3 and an em1.
What are the pros and cons of both? I like the hatchback of the ep3, but I've always had a soft spot for em1's.

ep3s are the hideous, em1 ftw
same power on both, but i rather have a b16a2 than a k20a3, there are many things you can do to an em1, many upgrades for them since they have been out for a while

Dont know much about the EP3, besides i love those little things <3, but since they do have a k20, id assume you could do a head swap, and some minor mods to get it up to A2 standards, and then you'd have a more comfortable ride, and if done right, better looking IMO.
EM1's are classics tho, plenty of cheap parts for them (even name brand parts), but everyone has one. EP's are rarer.

Seems all the drivers are biased to their own cars. Well lets look at the facts. It just depends on what you want.
em has preferred body style, but leads to higher theft
em has conventional vtec
em has double wishbone suspension
em has more parts
ep has more torque
ep has unique body style, hit or miss
ep has a nicer interior
ep (04-05) has 5 lug
ep is more spacious

I'm sure several of you would be more than willing to overlook the aesthetics of the EP3 if it produced more power than an EM1 (akin to the EP3R).
However, looking at the fact you're coming from an EJ8, I think an EM1 would be most fitting for your situation.

You couldn't give me an EP.
But.... since the OP is not me, I would not sell an EJ8 and try to buy an EM1. You're gonna be out alot for the same car with B16, reardiscs, and holes in the headrests.
Throw a B16, rear discs, and DC seats(better than EM1 seats) in your EJ8. 99-00 front if you must.

Me and the op are twin brothers, and we both live at home. Let me tell you, theft is no problem where we live. I like the ep3 because everyone else hates them and no one modifys them because they are "ugly". I like them. Plus it's a hatchback and more functional to cruise around in with friends
