I'm at the step of painting my car now. I'm starting with the engine bay and would like to buy enough paint just for that. How much paint would cover the bay? I was thinking a quart would work.

 

Quart should be plenty.

 

A pint would be way more than enough.

Awesome. I'm going with a pint. How much primer/clear should I get with that?

 

usually with clear, i always get at least double the amount i used for basecoat... then again i spray heavy. u dont really need primer for an engine bay.. just scuff and spray...unless you're going a really different contrasting color and you need to seal it, or you've done some shaving

 

Going from red to a dark blue...shouldn't have a problem with the colors blending. so no primer needed then. Thanks man.

 

I would seal it, will help your color coat cover better.
