hey guys i just recently got an 03 dc5 type s about a week ago. car is fast and smooth but 3rd gear popped out on me 2-3 times already. i heard the 6-speed k20 motors had tranny problems and was wondering if any of you guys had the same problem as me. i was wondering how i can get it fixed and how much it would cost me?

 

I managed to get this fixed under warranty at my Acura dealership, just had to reproduce the problem with a tech in the car. There is a service bulletin for it. If your engine is past the included 7-year / 100,000 mile Powertrain Limited Warranty (from new purchase date), then you're going to have to get a quote.

Basically they're going to have to take apart the transmission to replace the third gear synchro, and a bunch of seals.

Yep This is like any other tranny not yours alone once it goes in smooth but jumps out chances are ur syncro bad.

 

ive had the same problem with me 06 type S i just got it less than a month ago and 3rd gear has popped out maybe 4 times. also sometimes when i start the car and go to put it into reverse the gear grinds. anyone know of this issue??

 

My 3rd gear doesn't pop out but grinds on my ep3. Has any one had that issue?

 

reverse gears will do that as they are straight cut.. that's not a problem unless u do it a lot.. make sure the car is stationary when selecting reverse.

 

its really more rare on the 5 speed trans..

 

It only grinds when I shift up but if I down shift from 4th to 3rd even High rpm's it won't grind
