Default DIY manifold polishing

ok so i took the liberty of polishing my ram horn manifold today. was bored so i felt i should do something productive to the ride and share it with everyone here.

all the tools you need are as follows:
3 terry cloths
1 typical kitchen scrubbing pad
1 can of mothers aluminum polish
pack of smokes
red bull
shade
some music
(and if your in an area where bugs bite get some off too lol)

heres a few pictures of how it looked before i put any work into it

1 of the runners mating to flange^^

pretty nasty

so i took the scrubbing pad and ripped the spongey material off(it helps when working with deep crevices) and went at it. at a few points the polish material was so black id use one of the terry cloths and polish it back to a shine and then go back at it again. it took me roughly about 3.5 hours to get to where i am at right now. here is some of the pictures of progress and where im at now. enjoy:

just testing for shine quality lol

dirty runner^

clean runner^

will post more updated pics tomorrow

If you weren't going to cover up your wrap I'd suggest spraying it down with brake cleaner after you mount it back up to remove the oil that would come from your hands, then spray it with some wd40 before starting to give it a nice even golden finish. But your gonna cover up all that hard work.

SO basically, you polished a turd. Ching-chong manifold.

I have fixed more of those in the last 2 years... ranging from cracked collectors, flanges cracking off, and wastegate primaries breaking off.

Due to temperature operating conditions and the environmental conditions and also due to impurities of the low grade stainless your manifold will tarnish again to that brown/yellow tint. Sorry to burst your bubble but you are wasting your time. It will turn to the same tint again.

...IF it doesn't just fall apart at every weld point on it or even within the material its self. Being a welder/fabicator, I have seen my fair share of everyone one of these failing. In the end they all have a 100% failure rate.

it's funny how he posted a thread about polishing a manifold and yet everyone is making fun of it because it's a low quality manifold. The truth is that his method will work with any tubular manifold and if it were full race or something everyone would be praising it. to the op, good job.

I love those manifolds. With a decent labor rate. You can make more repairing them than making new/better manifolds.

so one has to be... 'rich' to buy a nice manifold. ok.

I worked at the movie theatre 10 years ago when I was 16 and I still could afford a nice manifold by saving my money.

If we were 'rich' we wouldnt drive a damn honda. HA!
