OK. I adjust my coilovers up and put the car on the ground and it is at a decent height but after driving and looking at it again the rears seem to go down. i have Kyb gas struts, and i know my coilovers are not threaded. what could be the problem. help please!!

stiction? when the car is parked, lift the back up with your hands. does it stay up an inch or so when you let go or does it settle back down to where it was? sticky friction from the bushings could be causing your problem.

 

it goes back down after being lifted up.

 

That's common because my car does that too, have to adjust a couple times. It could be the camber, springs is loose when car is lift than compress when car is down so the spring needs to aline with the weights. Plus if you adjust alittle only there by barely a difference.

 

the springs are used to the compression you have had them at. and its possible you are riding on the bumpstops perhaps?

this was my issue. low and behold my shocks were doing nothing the whole time. bah.

How the hell are you rasieing and lowering it then?

 

when i say they aren't threaded i meant the threads for the coils are not striped causing the car to drop from the coil.

So what should i do about this. how do i fix this problem.

 

Nobody really knows what the problem is. The symptom is that you car keeps lowering it self. But it's not clear as to why.

 

so based on what cracker1252 is saying i should adjust my coilovers up more so the springs get adjusted to a new height.

 

Also i recently did a rear disc conversion and i have the integra camber toe on the passenger side of the vehicle, and the civic camber toe on the driver side rear. could this have caused the problem. also its th driver side with the eg camber toe that keeps on lowering by itself.

So you raise up the car via threading up the coilover. Then you go drive it and it lowers itself? By how much?

 

No. That makes no sense. The spring compresses the same whether it's all the way down or all the way up. Why would the spring compress more or less with the same weight on it? How would the spring know which position on the sleeve it was on?

If you have a 500lb/inch spring and you put 500lbs on it...it will compress by 1''. So....would it matter if the spring is higher or lower on the sleeve?

 

my spring is 250lbs on each side. i would raise it up 3 inches and it would drop 2 1/2 inch down. nearly touching the tire. but its only on the side with the stock eg camber toe thats why i was asking if the camber toe had anything to do with the dropping.

sounds like an exhausted spring / shock combo.. also, make sure ur suspension is clocked

 

Sounds like you're jacking it up, adjusting, setting down, and the wheels aren't totally flat. When you jack a car up/down, the wheels' contact patch will be a little further in towards the center line until you roll it a little. It's sort of like turning the steering wheel when the car is off - it will turn 1/2 a turn, but it will snap back 1/8 turn because the rubber is flexing. Watch the wheels as they come down - they will start to push outwards as it goes down, but contact patch is in the same road spot.

THe other problem is that rear perches are made for coils, not tubes. The coil-over tubes will sink in a little when driven a little, wedging themselves in there. That will drop the body's rear 2x.


In other words, adjust how you think will be good PLUS some extra amount, set it down, and roll it forward a bit.

dam adj coil overs arn't complicated ! adjust the perch ( turn the part that the spring sits on) to the highest they will go up. Then tommorow morning go buy the right ones (not ebay) for your car because it sounds like they arn't the right ons and will not hold up to the weight of your car.
