93 accord lx problems
Ok, first a big thank you in advance to anyone who can help. i picked up a 93 lx today, it has 220000 miles but it's not too bad, and i got it for 500 so i'm not complaining too much. there are 3 problems with the car. 1 and most important, when the car is cold, or at least below normal operating temp the thing runs flawlessly it ides perfect right at 900 rpm, so smooth you can't even tell it's running, and fires right up when you turn the key, but once it warms up it still runs fine, but. when you come to a stop, or just push the clutch in for that matter it stalls, it will go from whatever rpm you were at to just dead with no warning however if you bump the clutch it will start right back up, and if you can get it to go to idle without stalling it only idles at about 250rpm. 2 once you drive the car and get it warm it does not want to start, it will turn over, but not try to fire, if it sits for about 10-15 mins it will fire back up and you are on your way. 3 it smokes bad, it seems like valve seal smoke, i.e when you take off from a stop, shift, rev the engine, etc... but it does not smell like oil smoke, it is blackish in color and i know generally black means fuel, it also has that fuel smell to it. so there are my problems, any ideas on them? and is it possible all of these could be related? other than these issues it is a pretty solid car, i would be greatfull for any help, thabk you
Sounds to me like they all might be related. Fuel seems to be the common issue here.
Is the check engine light on or even working (should self test at start-up)? An accord running that terribly would probably kick a code.
My gut feeling says to check your O2 sensor...but I've never had a problem this bad (it ran rich a few times, but never THAT rich)...

Yes, check engine light is on, after i posted this i had a thought, would it be possible for either A. the fuel pressure regulator to be bad, and allowing too much fuel or B. could the circuit that controls fuel flow on cold starts be non functional causing it to run at cold start fuel levels all the time? also i tried to pull the plugs, but the spark plug tubes were flooded with oil, the previous owner tried to seal the spark plug to valve cover surface with rtv, is it possible for this oil to leak past the plugs and cause some of these problems?
My 2 cents on the idle and maybe #2. FITV and then let's not forget the EGR passages could be blocked, or the egr valve could be "slow"/clogged. What do the codes tell you?
As far as #3....PCV? Just reaching on that one.

I'm not really sure how the fuel pressure regulator works. Somone else on here may be able to speak to that idea.
However, It would be very helpful to know what codes that the car is throwing up. To read the codes, see the how-to here:

For the FITV/IAC procedures that poorman 212 mentioned, see the following link:

As for the spark plug tubes. If the spark blug is properly tightened, you shouldn't have oil leaking into the cylinders. If the plug is loose enough to let oil in, you're probably going to have some compression issues. The F22 spark plug tube seals do go bad (both upper and lower sets) but its more or less a matter of preference (if oil in your tubes bothers you, change the seals, if not...keep driving it). I doubt its causing your problem, but there is always the off chance that it might be contributing, and its a relatively cheap/easy fix. If you do it yourself, it's maybe $20-40 in parts (seals) and an hour or two of your time. My local Honda dealer did the service on my Accord a few months ago (upper and lower tube seals and valve cover gasket) for about $140. If you do the lower tube seals, you'll have to re-time the engine, the upper tube seals just require pulling the valve cover and replacing the gaskets (and using a little RTV usually to get a good seal) which takes less than an hour in my experience.
Let us know what the codes are and go from there. You've got at least two issues here to deal with at this point (tube seals and fuel issue).

Ok, tried to pul the cel sodes, but i cannot find the connector, i pulled the kickpanel off, the carpet back, and even took the glovebox out, there is no 2 pin connector under there, the only thing i could find was a 6 pin connecter attatched to the foot well, but other than that no other connectors not being used. anybody have a picture of where this connecter is or any suggestions of where it may be if it is not on the passenger side
Mine was hard to find originally becaure it was taped (with blue tape) to a wiring harness next to the glove box and above the kick panel. IT will be a small, square-ish connector and I've only seen then in a light blue color. The tape on mine was a slightly brighter blue than the connector.
Hope this helps. If I still had my CB7, i'd take a picture for you, but alas I had to upgrade for better gas mileage (38MPG sure beats 28MPG when you drive 3000 miles per month or more!)

thanks, i found the plug, and amazingly just like you said, it was taped with blue tape to the harness running next to the glovebox, but once i jumped it there were no codes stored, but now i have bigger problems, i was trying to drive it as it was, then it overheated and blew the head gasket, so i have to fix that first, and then i will worry about the driveability issues,.
what's up everyone. I have a couple of issues with my accord.
1. my ac wont work. Ive already tried converting the r-12 to r-134 but it just eats the cans.
2. my cars starts to overheat when im idling. Strange thing is, it doesnt need water/antifreeze, and i dont see any leaking.
3. my driver side windows dont go down. I push the button and i hear them go. the rear window on the drivers side starts to go down but gets stuck. Will I have to replace both motors or something else.
4. My ceiling light nor my cigarette lighter doesnt work at all. Will I have to replace the lighter or change the relay. Ive already tried replacing the bulb and fuse.
Your help would be most appreciated.
