Various vendors offer front and rear kits for the FA/FG's which are supposedly compatible with FD conversions. From DIY's I've seen, you are correct in that you do need to trim the tabs however, I'm not sure what exactly you're converting on your civic. If its the rear, you are going to be converting to an FD trunk lid so I'd imagine that you will not need to trim the tabs.

I got the front/rear kit from robbearracing. I had to clip the tabs front and rear and use double sided tape for an 09 SI sedan.
