I have a very bad bog or hesitation with my 95 h22a prelude. Also it wants to idle very low I'd say about half the time. I have replaced the fuel filter, tps and map sensor. Also I got a new distributor, cap, and button. I replaced all the hoses at the same time. I have a cel for the heated o2 sensor and the knock sensor but couldn't find anything on them that relates back to my problem. Any ideas or advice would be awesome.
I have this same issue with my '98 model and was hoping to find a reply to your post here. Did you ever figure this out ? My car runs pretty normal if I drive VERY easy and don't depress the accelerator more than about 1/2 way - - but if I try to get into it , like to pass or something , it just kind of wants to kick and buck and act like someone is applying the breaks at the same time I'm trying to get moving.
i would check the oxygen sensor or replace it. it can be throwing a voltage to the ecu to run really lean hence the low idle and struggle to accelerate. it maybe running so lean that your engine is detonating and your knock sensor detects it and throws the trouble code on. either way if it isnt that i would replace the heated o2 sensor anyways thats a really bad idea to drive it like that
well, if the CEL is lit up, you should address the known problems first. then if the problem is still prevalent, look into other areas. the O2 sensor can make a car run like total crap.
anyway, if that doesnt do the trick, or if you have the problem w/o the CEL lighting up, i would look into the emissions system. maybe the cat could be clogged up (which i guess could cause the O2 sensor to overheat?), or the egr valve might be blocked.
on my 91 accord, the egr was completely clogged up. when i gave it gas, it would just bog down, lose speed and power, until it got above 2k. i would have to run it in 3rd gear (automatic) just to drive it around town. anyway, on the f22 intake, there are plugs that you can remove to also clean the ports where the egr gas mixes into the air of the intake. if they arent cleaned out, the gas can go to the ports that are open, and choke the cylinder when it fires.
i cleaned the valve itself, and it helped a lot. i couldnt get the plugs out of my intake though, so im at a hault with that for now. you can also just block the egr off w/ a block plate, but then the CEL will stay on all the time. to test, try unhooking the vac line and blocking it off. if it runs better, its the egr.
