Default 91 Hatchback speedo question

My speedo hasn't been working so I took the time out to mess with it yesterday. I come to find the speedo cable was not connected. Not only to the cluster but also the connector piece that you use to connect to the cluster.

So I put the cable back on the connector and pushed the connector piece back on to the cluster till I heard the click.

Still doesn't work?!?!

Do you guys think I maybe didn't connect it all the way or the cable is bad?

You can also check it for breaks by leaving it off the cluster as you drive.. You will see the pin turning. No turning = not hooked up in trans, or cable is broken.
