Icon3 High pitch noise coming from engine.

So when my engine is warm and only at idle it starts to make this high pitch whistling/squeaking noise. I know that it is not any of the belts or the intake. It is also not any of the vaccume hoses on the intake manifold.

Heres a video to see what it sounds like. You can hear it really well towards the end.

If anyone knows what it could be please help, it is the most annoying thing ever! And I cannot figure this out! Thanks.

Sounds like a bad pulley bearing. Use an inexpensive engine stethoscope to pinpoint the noise.

Also check your alternator. If you can, start eliminating a/c, altrernator, p/s belts one by one, and see if the sound goes away. I hope this helps.

Well I don't have a/c, and I ran the engine with the alternator belt off so it's not that.

I might try disconnecting the p/s belt to see if its that.

Hmm yes, good idea!

I'll try to pinpoint the noise first, but I did listen very carefully for a while the other day and it seems to be coming from the cam pulley area or just behind. The noise is clearly not from the p/s area.

Is it possible that the timing belt is to tight or something?

Or could the pulleys be making this noise?

Try squeezing your pcv hose when it's making the noise.

Agreed. And I wanted to compliment you on how clean the engine bay is!

Honestly, it sounds like air whistling as it goes through the IACV passages. If you notice it only whines when the IACV opens up. I had a 5.0 Mustang that did that, as well as many other 5.0's. Take off your IACV and sand the sharp edges down slightly.

I'll check the IACV, I was told it was a air leak or something for sure.

The locations of the sound and IACV aren't a good fit.

Yeah, well the sound is more towards the rear drivers side of the engine. It's not at all near the tb. So it's probably not that.

Sounds like the alternator. As already mentioned, remove the alt belt to see if the sound goes away.

Yeah I did that and the sound didn't go away!

A lot of people have been telling me that it sounds like a air leak, not bad bearings. I don't know tho.

Someone said that it could be a intake valve leaking. Is this possible?

Seriously, I paid only $4 for an engine stethoscope at Harbor Freight Tools.

Any more Ideas as to what this might be?
