Default new to honda, need some knowledge

i have recently acquired a 90si hatch. its clean in and out, only problem is it has a hole in the block. i dont know too much about honda blocks, so im aiming to get some help about which block i can match up with the a6 head, assuming i cant find another a6 block. i look forward to learning from you all. ive tried other forums and websites, but i cant seem to get a straight answer. any help would be nice, thanx!

That's how it always starts.......small, innocent, by accident in my case. I bought a '91 Civic Si (didn't even know what it was when I bought it) to be used as a dd while I rebuilt my '90 Chevro S-10 4x4, then sold.

Guess what? The 4x4 has been parked out back rusting away since Sept 2002 and I am rebuilding the Si. It's headed for essentially a full restoration. Did the bushings first and then bearings, struts, seals, hubs, total brake system, CV/axels, head assy, water pump, belts, hoses, temp sensors, full 2 1/2" stainless exhaust, 15x7 wheels, Nitto's, radiator, stereo, tranny, alarm, radiator, Optima battery, strut tower braces...... Will do a ZC DOHC next and then hit the interior and paint - done deal full restoration and a nice hotrod to drive around.

And boys, I'm 56 years old. Guess what? It doesn't go away. Once a gearhead with a need for speed always a gearhead. I got my first speeding ticket at 13 yrs old on a Little Indian minibike.....and many many more since then.

Not to hijack your thread dude - just a forecast into your future.......

Back to your post - what about the hole? If the innards are ok, it could potentially be prepped and repaired with JB Weld or Devcon Titanum Putty. But, I suspect the innards ain't ok (as in someting from inside exited the flight envelope via the block side wall) and the momo needs to come out.

Right?

EDIT: I re-read your post. Ok, so you need a short block. Well, I'm kinda new to the parts interchangeability of these things, but you can get a JDM motor pretty cheap or should be able to find a used D16A6 short block in decent shape for a fair price.

Really depends on your budget - that's the starting point. I did the head on mine a few weeks ago and it was about $1000 or so for the whole job. Motor has 162k miles on it. Wanted to freshen it up so I can build a motor and take my time doing it. Head was $400-450 delivered to my front door. Then I replaced lots of other stuff so I can hopefully drive it a year or so without any problems. Changed all gaskets, head bolts, temp sensors, belts, hoses, water pump, adjustable cam pulley, injectors, thermostat, spark plugs, rotor, cap, wires, etc.

Then, beyond the $1000 for the head, I put a full stainless exhaust system on it, replaced all pipe hangers and new cat - another $500-600.

So, what is your objective and budget?

You came to the right place - I only know a little - but many that play here have mucho knowledge on the subject.

basicaly, a swap will be cheaper. for instance a sohc zc will be around 800, maybe less. and will have less milage and be more fun than what you have/had in it.

the innards are bad, as you would suspect lol im just curious if i could put a block from a d15b2 or b7 on my a6 head. and if so, what modifications are needed? would it be a complete swap over, or will i need parts from the b2 or b7 block? has anyone done this swap before? i pretty much just want to get it running. later on ill build a decent d series engine. hate to sound like a noob, but i am lol ive only built nissans before i came across this Honda gem.

here, you need a ecu for this swap. everything else is a straight bolt on deal. i would get the optional zc tranny with it, its geared better

thanx for the link for the zc swap, ill keep in hand for a later build. but the reason im asking about the b2 and b7 block is because i have both of them here. like i said, i just want to get the car running and do a swap later on. so you said that any other d series block will just bolt right up, without changing anything over? if thats the case then many thanx my friend, ill work on it immediately

yeah pretty much.. and as for those blocks either one will bolt up. i think you have to use the timing belt/head gasket for the bottom end you have, im not 100% on that though
