was driving my ej1 yesterday on a road trip... halfway in and 80 miles later, the gears started to lag. Depending on the gear it would lag anywhere from the startup in 1st to 2500 revs in the high gears. I feels like the clutch was partially engaged and it struggled greatly to accelerate from 2500 or 3000 revs and then it would catch and pull normally.

In cruise control in ran fine on level ground but up hills i could tell it was struggling. Kept feeling a slight push forward in my seat like when you pop the clutch on a downshift to fast.

I've read things about everything from faulty throttle body to bad plugs and wires to a fuel leak?

anyone have anything?

 

Is the clutch slipping or is the engine misfiring?

 

i doesn't sound like a misfire and no CEL

 

If the clutch is slipping, then it needs to be replaced.

 

Yeah, the clutch might be slipping.. Im havin a similar problem right now and its my clutch

 

if the clutch was slipping the engine would just rev up, like it was in neutral, but no accel. It sounds like a fuel or ignition issue. have you checked the fuel filter, or pump, or might be the wires, or plugs.

 

Ya i've been looking some more and the fuel filter and relay keeps coming up.

Just drove it for the first time today just down the street. At a stand still in neutral it idles fine but when I engage the clutch, the idle turns rough.

When I accelerate, the acceleration is all over the place, runs rough and lags then catches and pulls normally around 3000 revs.

 

It's misfiring. Check the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Any CEL codes?

 

nope no CEL

 

That's only one of the things I mentioned to check. And does the CEL work?

 

cel works fine... waiting till tomorrow to check everything

 

sounds like a clutch problems having same issues here but only at high RPMs when Vtec pops i got a 97 civic NO CEL (deff Clutch problems)

 

My brother's hatch did the something similar. When you had constant throttle on, about 1/4 throttle, it would accelerate erratically. It usually only happened when the engine was warming up. His turned out to be misfire.
