Default Jacking up the rear of the car?

On the tow hooks in the rear. Do you put on the e-brake? Do you put in 1st or reverse? Thanks.

I usually throw it in first.

having some wheel choks doesn't hurt but if it's a level surface I wouldn't worry....I just throw in first and jack it up. When you let it down there might be a little pressure on the wheels.

I wouldnt even jack it up from the toe hooks . There are a lot of spots under the car that would be more stable and safe. Find a spot on the frame.

the rear tow hook is the jacking point in the rear.

Yeah. After you're done working on it and lower the car, the car itself might sit a little higher in the rear due to the hand brake, but it'll be gone once you release the hand brake.

Gave me a scare when I did it.

you better pull the hand brake all the way up other wise your car might roll off the jack. not sure about 1st or reverse or neutral.

What good is pulling the hand brake if he's jacking up the back of the car? Neither one of the tires will be on the ground. I would put it in first and use wheel chocks.

That's what I thought. Blocks for the front tires would be best I guess.

So my Helms manual and owners manual is wrong? Try reading the owners manual and stop giving bad advice. Where's the frame under our cars? Last time I checked we had a unibody but maybe I'm wrong?

I'm always nervous about jacking up from the rear tow hook. It looks kinda too weak to be able to support the car.

Front jacking: you're supposed to jack from the little lip under where the radiator is right? I sometimes hear a little creaking while jacking. kinda scares me

Don't jack up the car from the rear crossmember, from what I've heard it is not a strong location. The car should be jacked up by the rear toe hook.

And yes it does not matter one bit if you put the e-brake on since it only locks the rear wheels.

There is a jacking point under the front bumper, protruding from an opening in the plastic underskirt

Just so you know, you should be doing this with a decent floor jack and jackstands. You want to be damn sure that car is secure before going under it

be careful. about a week ago i was jacking up my car and the jack rolled over causeing the car to land on the jackstand (i had that jackstands right next to the car so i could slide them under) it put a hole in my side skirt and pushed up my fender. if i was under there i would have died for sure. always be careful.

I agree totally with lsteggy. i was jacking up the rear of my car to install my struts when i bought them and the jack rolled over...i had the jack stands right next to the side skirts where the side hard points are...and when the jack rolled over it scared my friend and he kicked the jack stand underneath my car. the jack stand ended up directly below my right trailing arm...dead center. now the main bushing in the center of that trailing arm squeeks like a ******...i'm going to have to replace it with the prothane inserts. sucks.

WALMART JACK......... on sale! lol, for reals tho, jack it up from the rear tow hook, but make sure you have the E-brake up and the car in first...and like the others said, put blocks infront of the front wheels. you should have no problems...oh, jack stands would help too if you need the rear up for a while

Craftsman 3 ton jack, although I hear there are much better choices out there. I got a set of no-name 3 ton jackstands from Pep Boys, which I now use since, unlike the craftsman jackstands, they don't hit the frame when placed properly at the jacking points

Aren't ramps (good quality and new of course) safe to get under? When I installed my exhaust I used ramps + jackstands because I always hated getting under the car at first, the jackstands gave me that extra safety feature. Ramps give you way more room than jackstands do. Is it as safe?

Yes, obviously the only drawback is you're SOL if you want to pull the wheels off
