91 honda accord tensioner quewstions
im going to replace the o ring in the lower spark plug tube and i think im going to have to take off the timming belt, camshaft and rocker arm assemblies, now when i put everything back in how do i mess with the tensioner to tigthen up the belt if it gets too loose?
You do not have to take off the timing belt or camshaft. Remove the valve cover, back off all the adjusting screws for the valves, loosen the cam/rocker retainers a few turns at a time, remove the entire rocker assembly with the bolts in place, they will keep it together. The end of the camshaft that engages the distributor will keep the cam in place. Replace the o-rings on the underside of the camshaft holders (I used a little Hondabond to keep the o-rings in placee). Reinstall the rocker assembly, thread the bolts in a little at a time, then follow the correct torque sequence and value. If I remember the Honda manual correctly, it has three incresainglevels of torque to go through (different values for different bolts) in sequence to pull it down evenly. Adjust the valves. Reinstall the valve cover with new seals. It shouldn't affect the timing belt tension or distributor timing.
