Default chipped p06 in f22b1

I have a question on if I can runn a chipped p06 converted to vtec in my f22b1? I saw a thread about the muffin man saying it wont run good on a thread while I was searching the archives. Just wondering why it wont work cause I put in a p28 and my car ran like dookie. The idle was really low and it seemed to have lost power while in vtec, anyone who can help will be apprechiated. Also will a p13 be better 4 me?

A chipped P06 will work if it's tuned. Other than that the best ECU to run an F22B1 woudl be a P0A (OBD1) or P0H (OBD2) ECU. The F22B1 VTEC will not work using the stock P13 or P28 4500-5500 VTEC engagement points. You have to take into consideration that the B1 VTEC is engineered to engage in the 2300-3200 range.

Exactly. Most people don't realize that VTEC only engages some where around 2.3K and ends at 3.2 something K rpm on these F22B1. Most keeps on thinking that VTEC engages around 4.5K+ like a DOHC VTEC engine which is wrong. The B1 is made for fuel economy; not like a Dual Over Head Cam engine.

OP, You want to know how well it drives w/o VTEC? Unplug the VTEC solenoid, take it for a spin, and come back tell us. Yeah, I know; very sluggish. That tells you that its got nothing to do with power but only fuel economy.

On the H22s, B16, or B18C1/5, if you unplug the VTEC solenoid, it'll still run fine but just no VTEC engagement like it suppose to. Plus, running a P28 ECU will only mess up your engine if it ain't chipped and tuned for your exact motor. Air/Fuel mapping will be wayyy off. It'll run too lean or too rich which can result in engine damage.

well when I put the head on I also changed the rings and replaced the main an rod bearings so I have been driving without a vtec ecu so it wont temt me to try an hit it. and it runs good up till bout 4 grand then it gets sluggish, but I know thats just the cam profile. My boy has a 95 ex and it might be designed as a grocery getter but it gets to save mart pretty dam fast. but I see what you guys mean about the fuel mapping on a p28, but wat about the p13 that wont work either or will it be better for some dyno tym

P13 ECU on a F22B1 wouldn't work either as it throw your fuel/Air map off. Best thing to do is get a P28 chipped ECU with the correct air/fuel map for your engine and get it dyno & tuned.
