Default Help setting up switch

Im new to forums hope im in rite section. I just purchased 2 step for my car. Im tryin to find a good place to mount my switch to go between module's. My buddy said to mount on my shifter, but my shifter is solid metal with a metal shifter **** so kinda impossible to mount there.. Only thing i can think of now that would be reachable while driven would be holdin it in my hand which i dont wanna do or have wire's hangin in the open. Anyone have any idea's for me? Thanks.

By shifter, he probably meant inside of the boot.

don't know what kind of car but couldn't u use a factory steering wheel control i.e cruse control button or stereo control?
u would just have to find a way to fit the switch into the factory housing?
just a thought i had some strobes in my old caddy wired to my factory cruse control and thats what i had to do
