Default Intermitting soft brake pedal

1995 2dr, Accord EX, auto. Just got the car for 1300, has 89K miles and look and runs great. One problem...the brake pedal occasionally will go to the floor while braking, I did get an ABS light once and went off. When the car is running I hear the ABS pump kick on for about 2 sec every 2 minutes or so. Don't see any leaks and fluids are full, have not bled them yet...if there was air in the lines wouldn't it go to the floor all the time? Thanks in advance...great forum, I look forward to posting and learning more about my Accord.

Try bleeding the brakes first. Air can wander around the lines causing the pedal to go to the floor.

Couple things. First, when bleeding, one thing I've noticed is that you should open and close the bleeder before the pedal hits the floor. While I have read time and time again that as long as the pedal doesn't come up while it's open you're good to go, I think that if the pedal hits the floor there is a chance that fluid will still leak out and air will come back in.

Secondly, your problem could be the master cylinder going bad which basically means the fluid is getting by the rings and those things go downhill very fast and could mean instant brake failure, meaning your brakes won't work while you're driving and that aint something to fck around with. Bleed and if that don't work, don't drive the car, change out the master cylinder.

"I hear the ABS pump kick on for about 2 sec every 2 minutes or so"

Be sure to check the fluid level on the abs unit as well. Might want to check for any stored codes.
