Default Fuel filler relocation

I am moving my filler tube into my door jamb so I can shave the gas door. I'll just let the pictures do the talking.

I prepped the gas door to be welded as well

Anyone have any ideas on how to bend this filler tube. I heated it today with my oxy-acet tortch and couldn't get it to bend. I should be able to just bend it to it's new location so I won't have to cut and weld it.

Thats a pretty good idea, I'm in for seeing the finished result.

Hate to ask a stupid question but did you clamp it down to a big table? Maybe rig up a cheater bar outta some scrap metal if you have anything laying around and try it again. Just gotta get the whole pipe where you're bending red.

A guy on a fiberglassing forum I'm on said that I have to anneal it first. " Just heat it to a reddish-orange and let air cool. once it's air cooled you can heat it to a orange-yellow and it should bend for you. filling the tube with clean sand (blasting or playground sand)will help in two ways. it will hold alot of heat and also prevent the tube from collapsing."

So hopefully I can get it bent properly otherwise I'll be using rubber marine fuel tubing.

Is your weatherstripping still going to seal with the door jamb cut right there?

only thing i'd be worried about is slamming the door, creating a spark, and bam.

Might be easier to just switch to a rubber tube.

Thats looks great I cant wait to see it finished.the only thing that I see may be a problem is water collecting at the bottom of the opening by the cap.

Using sand sounds like your best bet, if it still doesn't work rigging something up with rubber tubing seems to be the next best thing. I still wanna know how you solved this out.

The pipe has a 3 inch ID which made for a tight but easy to use fit.

The weather stripping hits to the left of the furthest point of the tube and has about 80% of it's surface still in contact. The seal is solid all the way down still

I've been pondering that too. I'll either weld in a channel at a downward angle or drill the bottom corner and run a drain tube out the bottom of the car.

you also don't see when you touch something and zap it because it's soo small. but... that soo small spark is what causes fires at the pump. def not sarcasm, just a concern although it may never be an issue. On the other hand, the work looks good and the idea is definitely something different.

Got some filler and primer on the jamb.

After attempting the bending method with little success I also found that I needed more length anyway. I pie cut up by the filler neck and bent it to a new angle, then welded in a 3 inch piece of pipe. For the vent I was able to find tubing. I water-tested the welds and even though they don't leak I still smeared them with seam sealer.

You can see the original mount for the filler and see how little it had to move

I,m relocating mine to the rear of my CRX. I will be doing the same thing behind the little plastic triangle that says Honda on it. I hope I will be able to do the same idea. I,m going to use marine fuel fill hose, because its designed for this kind of thing. Bad *** welding by the way!

I couldn't get any 1.25" ID marine hose at the local boat suppliers so that's why I ended up weldig the large tube. Good luck on your relocation.
