Best Engine-Transmission Combo
I am looking at getting an 06-07 accord sedan and have not yet decided which powertrain I would like. I have seen people talk on here about issues with transmissions. Are these issues the norm or exception? From a reliability standpoint are there any engines (I4,V6) or transmissions (5AT, 5MT, 6MT) to stay away from? Or are they all going to be reliable as long as proper maintenance is performed?
Also, in your opinion which combination offers the greatest combination of performance, fuel economy and reliability. Thanks.

A manual transmission is much less complicated, and therefore less likely to fail. People say the 03 V6 automatic transmission is the worst of the bunch, but my transmission is still going strong at 77k miles. They claim the 06-07 automatics are better, but I think they are all weak (I4 and V6), it's just that the V6's power puts more strain on them.
K24 with 5 spd auto. The "most perfect" Honda (06 Accord) I ever owned overall. Never needed to see the dealership, beat on, and ran solid. Only had to replace wear and tear cost cutting items like brakes and battery.
Why?
- Enough power to move around.
- Allows you to floor it in traffic situations. (I don't do it on a V6 because there is no need to with the extra power).
- Honda's non-planetary 5spd is a bit clunky. I like the mechnical (non-smooth) feel so I have some feel for what spd the trans is in.
- Proven, can anyone say anything bad about this combo?
Downside:
- Lower MPG than expect. 7G Accord is a big & heavy car.
Why not the V6? I own both J-V6. Yes, there are transmission issues with the older models. The new ones have yet to prove themselves. If one look at the transmission number, we can see it's different from the past. So this lead up to believe (hope) the improvements will make a difference.
