Default Does bleeder valve need to be opened when changing brakes/rotors on a 2000 Integra?

When changing the front brakes on a 2000 Integra LS do I have to crack the bleeder valve before compressing the piston? I've read that you have to on ABS systems so you don't force the fluid back through and damage the ABS but it doesn't mention it in my repair manual. I just want to see which way is correct before doing it wrong. Thanks!
