honda del sol timing probelms
hondA DEL SOL with d16z6 rebuilt my engine and have been having a terrible time getin it in time. Ive redone the timing belt like 6 times and finally it idles good starts no problem but it doesnt really have much power once you get in 3rd 4th and 5th gear. 1st and 2nd gear run fine the vtec kicks in and everything but once you go to third it doesnt have any power really. Im almost positive i got the timing belt on right i didnt use a timing light to do ignition timing??? However ive moved the distributor a million times but it just aint helping. Do you think that my timing belt is off or i just need to get a timing light to do my timing
Get the timing light. You can buy it at a parts store, save the receipt and return it when you're done. Autozone might even have one with their loaner tools. You need to make sure the timing is correct and not the cause before you can know it's something else. If you don't have a maintenance manual and can't afford one, you should have a look at one while at the parts store. It will point out all of the steps for setting the valve and ignition timings, respectively.
It's a flashlight in the shape of a gun used to set when the spark plugs spark in relation to their pistons' positions. Search Wiki for "ignition timing" and "timing light" for more info. Search for "stroboscopic effect" to understand how the timing light does what it does.
