Default door indicator switch is not working (?)

Here's my problem: my 4th gen doesn't seem to know when my driver's side door is open. This makes me think that the switch in the door jam has gone bad or has a bad connection. Has anyone had this problem before? Any and all help on how to diagnose and/or fix ithis problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The warning light in the dash may be burnt out.

THanks for the suggestion, but that's probably not it. The dome light doesn't work when it's in the DOOR position and the door is open, but it does when I turn it to the ON position. Also, I'm missing my "your door is open" dings for the headlights and the keys in the ignition. So I'm prettty sure it's the door position indicator switch that's bad. It's al kinda weird. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated, though!!

I had that problem on my passenger side, the light wouldn't go on. But I played with it and it would eventually turn the light on. You need to take the switch off and try not to let the wire that connects to the switch fall too far in or it will be hard to pull it out. Then you will slide the cover off the switch, its kind of hard to explain, but you will understand once you take the switch off and start messing with it. There is a small piece of metal that looks like a very small staple. If you look at it, it might be cocked to one side, it should move up and down evenlly because there is a spring under it. You need to take that staple looking piece out and bend it a little inward or outward on both sides because I can't remember which I did, to make it move evenlly like I said before. Then put it back together and check if it works properly. Hope this helps you, It didn't take me too long to do about 15 minutes to figure out what was wrong and taking the switch apart and fixing it. give it a shot.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
