Do I really need a type-s...
Ive spent the last hour or so searching through the post about the type-s. The wife and I have been looking for a type-s since the beginning of the year. Almost bought an 06 with 50k for 11.300. Then the guy flaked and jacked the price to 12k when i showed up. Ive spent way too much on carfax.
We started looking at late model integras, but couldnt find a decent ls at a reasonable price. Personally i dont think 6-7k is reasonable for a 100-115k mile integra ls.
We are looking for a reliable car, we plan on making a trip out to CO from SC in August. Currently we have a 92 teg with the 1.8. The car has 265k on the drivetrain. Only mods are intake, and full exhaust. Car has been rock solid for us. I drove it to Maine and back in a weekend back in March.
The teg is just starting to show its age but still runs great, i still plan on driving it back and forth to work until the motor goes, (currently it needs a clutch job, just popped up 6/4/10).
We need something to make road trips in. Thats where the type-s comes in. I really like the 1.8 motor, i know them inside and out and can work on them easily. The K series motors are new to me, ive never laid a wrench to one. When we looked at late model tegs i was avoiding the v-tech models, i dont see a whole bunch of v-techs over 250k and figured it was just another system that needed maintenance or would break.
Im drawn to the rsx because of the looks mostly, its a fantastic looking car, beautiful interior, especially leather. And the type-s, well, for the performance.
But do i need the performance? We have taken the old teg to the local 1/8 mile track a few times and my wife has bested a 10.2 out of it. We have two domestic race/street cars that are much faster, and a diesel dually that is almost as fast as the integra.
What we NEED is a good reliable, fuel efficient, sporty looking, 2 door car. Honda/Acura are my only choice for daily drivers The BASE RSX seems like a step up from the old 1.8 92 integra LS. I keep reading of the tranny problems with the 6spd, i really dont need that headache. Yes the base is lacking in the performance but with the 5spd manual it should still out perform the integra and be good enough for us.
Plus the base RSX's are cheaper, lower miles, less chance of being abused, better on fuel. Im having a hard time even finding decent type-s rsx's around the south east region, that arent overpriced.
What do you guys think? Ive read alot of post where everyone says to buy the type-s but every situation is different, considering my situation, do i really need the type-s?
Sorry for the long post. But its always good to get different opinions and different point of views.

For your situation the base model sounds perfect for you. I am glad you do your research before you buy a car, not after like some people.
Good choice on the 2011 Mustang.
I just got sick of the used car flakes, ive had enough. Wife wanted a Camaro, ive been warming up the the Mustangs of late. Nothing Acura has NEW is really working for me, since they **** canned everything 2 door.
Compared the Mustang vs. Camaro and the Mustang was the clear winner.
Didnt have a need for the GT, but i think the 308hp/287tq v6 will keep us plenty happy just driving. We dont need a race car, just something reliable and good gas mileage.
Still keeping the 92 teg. In the process of putting a clutch in it, my vendor sent me the wrong one so my rack is going to be tied up for the rest of the week. 265k and soon to be still counting, gonna keep it for around town until the motor gives out.

LOL! Blast from the past. So my wife left me a month or so ago. She has the mustang, I get the 92 integra. Ugh. Knocking on 290k, I havent done anything too it since I posted this thread. The car runs fine but its BEAT. Being single now, girls dont want to be seen in a beat up 92 integra.
SO.... I bought an 03 type S yesterday. LOVE IT. Slower than the mustang, but the Acura is just beautiful, so fun to drive, its lowered with aftermarket sway bars, and a k/n filter. 120k. Satin Silver, no spoiler, charcoal interior. I would have kept driving the teg but I wouldnt be getting ANY play in that car.
Getting washed and tinted beginning of the week and Ill post some pictures. Thanks everyone.

308hp v6 will definitely be fun!
