Default heat sheild or heat wrap

I have the stock headers. I'm thinking about putting the heat sheild back but not sure...... or should i just use some exhuast heat wrap.
* heard that the wrap will seriousely cut down the life of your aftermarket header, but how bad will it be with the THICK *** factory header?

****with the heat sheild do you guys notice a difference in engine bay temp?

why not wrap it? hot air naturaly goes up and where theres the least obstruction heat just goes up into the shield and around it i would think.

The header will overheat, and it is a bitch to wrap.

You can do both, but the heatsheild is the best solution I think.

wouldnt a stock cast manifold be prone to cracking if wrapped???? seems like it would insulate too much heattttttttttt.

thank you for asking that question. Thats what i wanted to know. How long will my stock header last if i wraped it (miles) This is an auto so i never see more then 3200rpm daily.

Considering the thermal deficiencies in the metal make-up of the stock Honda header, while being wrapped with thermal isulation, would only allow you to drive your car daily at an RPM at or below 3200 for aproximately 34,826.789 miles before it would fatigue and crack.

Of course driving above 3200 RPM will change the fatigue rate by a coefficient of 5.

Wrap it !! I have had mine wrapped for quite some time and have had no problems. The stock heat shield will do ok. I wrapped mine to the downpipe and it caused my catalytic converter to glow red hot. This was under heavy driving on a very hot day. Wrapping has definitely lowered my underhood temps (hood used to get so hot I couldn't touch it). I don't get that sluggishness after I've been driving for awhile either. I will post pics if I have time tonight...
Edit: Yes it is a bitch to wrap it.
This is what I used. Use the high temp silicone spray but don't use those stupid metal tie things (they suck). Just use metal hose clamps.

i guess not but cracking an exhaust manifold sucks your will to live.

I believe you calculated that figure with 3.87% nickle content in the make up for the stock header (Which we all know is the usual percentage honda uses in their pre 95 headers.) I made the same mistake at first, but the actual nickle content is 4.2876%.

Missed all of you guys!

So should i have any problems with wraping it, and useing the heat sheild? how long will my factory header last? I drive about 1,500 miles a month. will it last me atleast 3 years?

Leave it stock plea. The very minimal gains if any you recieve from wrapping would not be worth the time and trouble doing so.

No. you wil have exceeded the thermal "life excpectancy" of your stock headers since you will have driven 54000 mile based on 1500 miles/month for 3 years.
In order for you to make it to 3 yrs with all variables considered you will have to change your RPM range to 2400 and below and never exceed that limit.

If your not driving hard I don't see why you would have to worry about it. It does keeps things cooler under the hood and remember for every 11 degrees you go down in intake temperature it equals 1% more horsepower. Not a lot but it helps. If you could lower your intake temp by 110 degrees on a 200HP car that would be a free 20HP.

well i personally like to fry fish and other food on my engine, so i leave it unwrapped.

actually for like 2 years i had my el-gimpo pacesetter wrapped.. and it just wore out (the wrap). Took it off and never looked back.
