Default My del sol transtop project

Building it from the frame up.

Starting off with nothing:

Sand

Weld

Grind

Prime/Seal

Order Parts:

Powdercoat Parts

Order More parts

Work on motor

Rebuild stuff

Oh yeah, I need 6 wheels because...

Lots of work to finish up my trailer, but it'll get there

Shaved the ground and bottom lip down

More engine work

Tranny: Put the 5th gear in and LSD, New clutch is in also

Type R LSD

Turbo mani:

Transtop gears broke again

Rebuilt the transtop tilter

works again

I changed my mind about closing up this hole so it was opened back up

brought the car home for some more body work/primer

Finished up the paintbooth

More turbo parts

even more turbo parts

got the car back to the shop (in the paintbooth)

30 hours straight priming/sanding/bondo/sanding/bondo/sanding

layed down some paint

all the previous work on the engine bay was re-done. (wasnt good enough so I started over)

I didnt really like the Milano red so I repainted it (the 3rd time this week) to "True Red"

Why does nobody keep these rubber linings?

=-0

Took me 30min to put the subframe back on by myself

10min to install the hood dampers (one side was being a bitch to latch on)

Worked on the wire tuck

Heres where it goes through the firewall

zoomed out a bit:

reinstalled these tab thingies for the side skirts

side skirt is on

a little wire-loom makes it all pretty

more stuff installed

test fitted a few turbos, still not sure how im gonna make one fit

tried another "AC Compatible" turbo manifold

Alot more wiring

New overflow tank

Mocking up the turbo pipes

-Axles are installed
-Fluids filled
-Side Skirts installed
-Mudflaps installed
-Electrical (light) issue fixed
-Exhaust installed
-Fenders/Bumper Installed
-Hood/Doors/Fenders Aligned
-Brake rotors surfaced
-Clutch Bled
-Brakes Bled
-Hood & dampers installed
-Battery Charged

prolly more, but here are pics:

Still lots to do

A little flake

I let the pro do the welding on this part

Perfect Fit!

I have been looking for del sol seats so I could get the rails from them forever, finially I got some (Donation from PI Auto in Austin)

I chopped them up

Installed them and measured the width

Cut a cross bar (Home depot steel) and measured/drilled the bolt pattern for the seats

Welded them and spraypainted them black

And repeat:

I picked up some parts from Honda:

Installed them:

Mounted the tires (learned how to use the tire machines in the process)

Started on the traier

aw, it wants a belly rub

a little measuring, cutting and tack-welding

More measuring, cutting and tack-welding

measurements look good, gonna weld it all up tomorrow

$165 worth of connectors from jegs

Cut off the nipples from the intercooler. Gonna change it up to a -8 an fitting

Gonna weld it tomorrow

Same for the heat exchanger (was a -12 an fitting, gonna make it smaller to be consistent)

Changed up the ice box a little, decided to use 4" pipe instead of making a custom box about the same size/shape:

Still just chillin on the lift

removed some stuff to get a clear shot for tack-welds

Tight fitment

Had to make a custom adapter (not sure where the AC compatible part comes in)

Icebox all welded up

This came out how I saw it in my mind

Everything was a perfect fit (as always)

Made a custom downpipe from scraps

Alot of work done on the trailer lately

Electrical has been wired to match my taillights

Now you can start to see what was in my mind

temporarily spray-painted to prevent rust, might paint it black tho, I like how it looks

Added a 2nd loop to hold the connector when the trailer is unhooked.

Took the car to the show even tho its not done

That tape turned out to be a bitch to peel off

She raised my pole

Right after that carshow someone backed into my car leaving a huge scratch and several small ones that buffed out.

Last weekend I repainted it (good thing I bought extra paint)

What's that thing on the passenger side bumper in front of the light? A laser gun?

Its called a bumper pole. Its one of the extra features available for the japanese del sols. The purpose is to help with parking in tight spaces, you can extend the pole (with light on the end) to see exactly where the far corner of your car is.

(I also got the bumper guards (left) that I gotta stick on, was just waiting to buff the paint first)

Oh and I forgot what the middle one was for

Oh and the reason I started this project finally was because I only won 2nd place at carshows and got to do:

I know it was a slow time, remember it was mostly stock and I didn't feel like beatin the crap out of it. I get nothing for doing that show, and I really had nothing to prove. But after the show, I realized how crappy the paint was, and how slow the car is. Every time I watched the video, I saw how badly I would need a LSD. So this was the main reason for the power upgrades and I was determined to get 1st at a carshow, so thats why everything else.

I seriously thought about that, I wanted the Function 7 LCAs too, but that meant I'd need 2 sets of everything... That would be around a grand for both rears...so.... yeah.
