2000 civic ex motor wire harness into 96 dx hatch, CAN IT BE DONE?
If you want to interchange the motors with each of your car, then you will need to simply buy a engine harness and the corresponding ecu for the application.
For the 96 Civic automatic, You will need to find a 96-00 Civic Ex or Si engine harness for this to work. You will also need to find a 96-00 Civic Ex ECU. Then you will need to install a clutch pedal for the 96 civic if you plan on keeping the swapped motor MANUAL. You can take the clutch pedal assembly from your 00 Civic Ex and swap that into your 96 Civic as well with the clutch reservoir. Other stuff you will need from your 00 Civic EX is the shifter linkage, shifter, axles etc if you plan on converting your 96 Civic to manual. But if you don't want to do this and keep the 96 civic AUTOMATIC, then you can simply swap transmission with the original 96 Civic motor instead.
For the 99-00 Civic manual, You will need to find a 99-00 Civic harness from a DX or CX model. You will also need a 99-00 Civic automatic ECU. Then simply interchange all the parts from the 96 Civic etc..
In other words, you cannot interchange the engine harnesses. 96-98 Civics are Obd2a. 99-00 Civics are Obd2b. The distributor wiring is also different but you can simply interchange them with each other to make the wiring work. In other words, take off the distributor from the 00 civic ex and swap it into the 96 Civic dx and vise versa.
In my opinion, this swap will take time and requires a lot of researching in order to get things done right. However, you can also figure this all out if you just interchange all the parts except for the engine harnesses and the ecu's. I think its a pain in the *** knowing that 1 of your car is automatic and the other is manual. If both were automatic or manual then it would be a breeze. Good LUCK!
