Default Steering Wheel Vibrating Randomly - Problem Inside

We'll I was on my way to MD from NC and as I was crossing a bridge, I hit a very large pot hole, actually several very hard, around 75MPH. After I hit it, my steering wheel started to vibrate pretty badly, but it doesn't affect my steering or anything, it just shakes pretty hard.

I can turn and everything fine, my car doesn't bounce or shake, it's just my steering wheel. I pulled over and didn't see anything cracked or broken and my tire is still aligned fine, so i'm not sure what the problem is. After I rode it a bit, the vibration went away and my car was fine. But it comes back randomly every so often now, mostly around 60-70mph speeds, but then goes away if I go faster, or it just goes away randomly.

I'm just curious to know what i'm looking at to fix (cost wise and all), because I was told if it is my axel, then it's around $700 fix.

Also, there is NO ticking at all when I turn left or right (I hit the pot hole with my left front tire).

1997 Civic EX manual.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I have a 00 coupe and it does the same thing, I am pretty sure its an axle starting to go bad, if the joint starts to go it can cause a vibration, as for it being $700 you need to find better shop or stop buying platinum plated axles, one from your local parts store should be >$100, and a honda one would run you about $200, and if you don't know how to do an axle swap now is a good time to learn, its really easy, if you insist on having someone do it for you it should only be about $200-300 just my $.02

How long can I drive on it without it crapping on me completely? I have to drive about 600 more miles before I go into the army, so i'm hoping it will last 600ish or so miles on it.

I'll do the swap myself, cause I need to learn sometime, but that's what a shop charged my brother when he got his axels replaced. I figured $700 was insanely high...

Yes. Your axle randomly started going bad the moment you ran over a bunch of severe potholes.

You may have bent a rim. You could have knocked the wheel weights off a wheel. You should have the vehicle inspected for anything obvious before driving the vehicle. For safety reasons.

You sure you did not bend a rim? It sounds like it to me, axle issue is rare on a pot hole, its usually the rim that takes a big hit.
