Default My ATS FD in the 1/4 mile...

Well, it was a gorgeous day in pittsburgh, and with the promise of some low 60-high 50 degree weather in the evening, a friend and I decided to take it to the strip....it's about the same conditions that it was when i ran a 14.624 at 95.06 MPH (mods at that time were a comptech intake...and yeah, that.) Since then i've added a rollbar (say, 70 lbs. of hardware and bar), swapped the front drivers seat to a sparco EVO (maybe -13 lbs. vs. stock after brackets etc.), and Added the ATS 4.929 FD. Ran on the same tires as the last time, Pirelli P7000s, and i'm running standard dyno oil now, no more synth. ...my best run was the first one (warmer pavement i think), against a 98 type R. I may scan the slips soon, but the info:

60' = 2.249
330 = 6.170
1/8 = 9.388
MPH 76.58
1000 = 12.165
1/4 = 14.520
MPH 97.84

So definately a little quicker despite the extra weight of the bar...the R next to me (with the usual bolt-ons) ran a 14.760 at 91.81 MPH.

ATS ownz j00, Road courses own the Strip, and beating a supercharged mustang by .01 second on my last run was fun.

its about time i asked, do you know your new shift points? (what speeds you are at redlining in each gear?)

When it comes to motorsports, nothing is more satisfying then beating an opponent you shouldn't be...no matter it be autox, drag, road, rally or snow/ice.

-Tommy who might try ice racing this winter with a chevette. Gotta do something in the winter since I don't ski (knee injury but not from skiing). Bumper to bumper racing on a frozen lake...sounds like fun

i heard trap speed tells a lot about how strong your car runs

since there is a difference of approx. 3 mph for trap speed, is that a lot??
did his ats make it run a lot stronger?

of course trap speed matters.

refering back to physics. if you travel the same amount of distance (1/4 mile), but finish it in a faster time, your acceleration & velocity is increased.

3 mph isnt a whole lot, but its a noticeable difference.

Hey Scott... stick to the road courses and tracks.... j00 just can't drag!

My car is all wrong right now, I've talked to you about it and I ran a 14.464 in Pgh... Not to mention crappy tires..

you PANSY! Take it to a REAL track, it's what the damn car was built for

Trap speed seems high for the ET (not that I know anything about drag racing), you could probably get a few tenths if you had some good rubber on there. On the other hand, the reason I didn't go is because all I have is good rubber, and I don't want to waste it in a straight line. Maybe if I had FOUR sets of wheels and tires I'd be able to make a few runs

Not to bust your chops but I need to play devils advocate here and say that

I expected more of an improvement from the ATS FD in your 1/4 mile run.

In my GSR with the stock tranny, I have run 14.5 with just an intake and my old michelin street tires.

I'm sure many other ITR owners have run mid 14's with just a stock ITR tranny.
I'm not impressed, but do you think that you are spinning too much or what?

haha, sorry, next time i'll just stay home and spend the same amount of money on high-test alcohol so i can try to light my hood on fire (but i'll be sure to light my hand instead, and beat my sunglasses to death on the hood, you ***! )

A better drag racer would get better times....only time i've done it this year, i drop the clutch at between 4500 and 5000, shift properly (clutch all the way in) etc. FF cars suck for drag

There was an RSX-S running 14.72s, which impressed us till we saw it was on slicks. Coolest car of the night was a total sleeper Gallant VR-4 that was running mid 12s and ate some well prepared V8 drag cars for lunch. AWD Turbo hole-shot = wickid.

I think that launch is too high for the ATS FD, try lowereing it to like 3000-3500 RPM...thats where I launch at

Heh, probably won't be a next time, i don't forsee doing any power mods to the car in the near future, so there's no point in running at the strip...

As for the ATS, I'm loving it at AutoXes and road courses, which is what it was designed for. Shift points I think are up on http://www.randdmotorsports.com in the ATS section...

This is true only if you compare two speed trap numbers for the same car. Between two different cars, the higher speed trap value does not always mean fastest time through the 1/4 mile distance.

well, i won mine, so it was definatley worth it. I think it kicks a plentitude of ***...whether it's worth it on a pure drag car, dunno. There have been a number of threads recently, if you're interested search on ATS and you should get some good hits.
