Just curious what people are using for those engine bays where space is an issue due to turbo setups. I need a slim fan to cool my turbo CRX and cannot fit a Fal in the space available.

Get yourself a Spal 13", reverse the polarity and run it as a pusher if using it as a puller facing the engine is an issue.

I'm switching from a ramhorn to a topmount & 4" DP soon, and I'm gonna run one that exact same way, being that the DP is gonna protrude into the surface area of the front of the rad.

Go to the junkyard , get a a ford tauraus fan from a v6 it flows 4000 cfm and 2000 on low setting.... I bought mine on half day for 12 bucks

what does this ford tauraus fan look like? 4000cfm or even 2000cfm is crazy man. For a half radiator or slim radiator 1000cfm or 1500cfm is great but im interested in this INSANE fan for $12 lol like this? did you cut the shoud some to fit on honda?

 

spal actually produces two part number for each fan. one for pusher and one for puller. for example the 13" that is so popular is listed as part# 30102044 puller and 30102045 pusher

has anyone used a maradyne slim? I saw them on xenocron, and they are rated at 1500 cfm.

I was interested in trying it out.

 

^ for spal 13" fan. Mine flows so much air, but it does draw alot more current though. Dims my headlights like back in the day when your bass used to drop in your system while cruising, whenever my a/c kicks on.

 

Last night i was looking around and seen those maradyne too its like $120 for 1500cfm.. www.slimfan.com has them and will stick your stock fan clip on it! But i mean those other ones are only about $50 and its 900cfm. So its SPAL or Maradyne for a hardcore fan i take it.. that ford fan looked promising but idk the details.

I dont know the CFM, but i use the accesory fan off of late 90's body style GM HD trucks. Got it at the junk yard for pretty much nothing and the thing is insane for the amount of air it moves, doesnt seem to draw a lot of current either.

 

My 12 inch slim fan from vsracing was supposed to pull 1600 CFM. I still had overheating issues with a/c on in stop and go traffic. I bought the 13 inch SPAL puller fan and switched my 9 inch a/c condenser fan to the 12 slim fan I was using before that was on the radiator. I now have no overheating issues. I have the 12 inch as a pusher fan on the conderser and the SPAL as a puller fan on the radiator. The amount of air coming off of that 13 inch fan is gobs more than what my 12 inch fan was doing in the same spot.

With the a/c off and my car idling, my 12 inch radiator fan would be on for about two minutes trying to bring the water temperature down. With the SPAL 13inch, a/c still off, the fan cycled for about 38 seconds max bringing down the water temperature..

one of my main goals for next year are to try and keep under the hood temperatures down on my car so I can race it without worrying about overheating issues.

my plan was to ceramic coat my manifold, heat wrap the down pipe, turbo blanket, mishimoto triple core radiator, and a nice slim fan and custom shroud for it. Was probably going to do a puller fan.

 

Thats the crappy 13" Challenger series, its not slim at 4.2" thick. The $120 dollar one i was talking about is the smaller 12" 1600cfm and 3.3" thick Champion series fan. Does kinda suck the more compact fan is $50 more. I just want it from the other place because it comes with the oem connectors lol too lazy to solder n cut my stock fan.

 

Spal 13" is a def. Got mine off Ebay for $130 shipped, yes it is pricey however can you really put a price on the cooling system, don't be cheap!!!

Im running a 12" proform straight blade, rated at 1500cfm i believe.. After going to this from a Hayden, I have 0 issues with wanting to get hot. Best thing is its only 55 from summit

 

SPAL 13" Is a proven performer. I have yet to see anything else come close.

 

Why crappy? I've had great luck with these, except for keeping them in stock...

And the overall dimension is 4.2" thick but that's at the thickest point (motor) so a majority of the fan area will be well clearanced on a typical honda.

If you are too lazy to cut off a two wire connector from your stock fan, and wire it on to this replacement fan...why go through the fun of building a car?

 

one thing to consider is that most manufacturers list CFM at 0 static pressure or basically what that can can do in open air with no restrictions. once the fan is on the radiator the actual CFM drops. how much is hard to say. but either way the CFM will be lower than the maximum listed by the manufacturer.

The SPAL 13" starts at 3000cfm so even after any reduced flow it still has plenty of cfm to go. But also remember that this fan draws big amps and requires re-wiring the oem fan circuit. i believe the oem fan and wiring is only set up for 15 amps max and this fan regularly pulls 20-22 amps. so a new/bigger relay and heavy gauge wire is required.

lastly, a proper shroud is almost required to cool the car properly. even with the SPAL 13" my car was creeping up over 200* during highway driving on those 90+ summer days.

 

Yeah, my spal came with the relay, but no fuse holder, it took multiple trips to the forums searches to see which wiring setup worked for my car. But, I didn't need to use a shroud to keep my temps down.
