Default door jam welding

I have a 93 Del Sol that i just picked up, and it has a place on the door jam that is rusting out from doing a crappy job the first time. The previous owner welded this area with a thinner metal and a poor welding job. What should i do to fix this? I check the local pull-a-parts for some del sols that i could cut out a replacement piece of metal but couldnt find any del sols. Im in Tacoma, WA so if anyone knows of some info (quality welding shop, junk del sols) that could help me out it would be greatly appreciated

I dont even know what this area is called

here is what it looks like:

Well your only real options are to cut out the door jamb, weld new metal in and paint it (just do a better job than the other guy) or buy a new quarter panel and weld that in. A new quarter panel is about $400. You may be able to get a shop to fix that for you for a couple hundred.

It depends on the door if it self supporting or if it set on the floor. Can you see any fastners on the inside jam. If not then it might be held in with clips and that means the floor is supporting the door.

there is a black clip on the botton area of the door jam, but doesnt seem like thats holding the door, seems like the rusted part is the main guy.

Those get rewelded around here all the time. Cut, grind, weld, protect. Just remember to weld nuts behind it if you aren't using 1/4" plate. 3/32" would be overkill but take forever to rust out again.

I got lucky and that seems to be the only spot NOT rusted on my del slo.
