1996 shifter and power window problem ...
I have a 96 f22b2 accord with an automatic trans. Earlier today i got in the car and started it. I tried to put the car into gear and it would not move. It was like the key was not in the ignition. Yes i did have my foot on the brake so don't ask lol. I do know enought about cars to kinda diagnose some issues but im not much of an import guy i just drive them. The power windows also stopped working completely. My first thought was the ignition switch because that is the only thing i can think of that would tie those two issues together. I have checked all the window fuses and relays and they are all fine. The only way i can drive the car is to put the key in the shifter unlock slot and put the car in neutral and start it. Then i can shift to any gear except park or it will lock as if the key was not in the ignition. The radio and everything works in the acc. position and the car starts fine. I am at a loss and any information would be very much appriciated. Thanks guys
For what it’s worth, I took a look at the wiring diagram for your car and it appears that the A/T interlock mechanism and the power windows relay share a common ground, which is located in the right kick panel area. On the diagram this point is labeled G203. Unfortunately, there is no picture of the ground so I don’t know what it looks like. Also, this ground appears to be a common point for a variety of things besides the two issues you have so I don’t know if this is related to your problem or not but it’s something you might look at.
