Default my ls vtec dyno sheet

just thoughts I'd post this up. I was surprised how much power this car made considering the setup although I have no idea how "friendly" the dyno at DNR reads.

I'm gonna include all the stupid little details in case anyone cares

B18B block
P30 pistons w/ blown rings (car smokes at high rpm)
ARP rod bolts with stock LS rods and crank
b16 head shaved an unknown amount, springs and intake manifold
Gsr cams
Dented Hytech replica header
3’ ebay short ram intake with blox velocity stack and filter
hondata intake manifold gasket
2.5’ mandrel exhaust with magnaflow muffler
straight pipe
AEM cam gears (intake 0, exhaust +2)
Endyn style block breather system with champion baffled catch can
walbro 255 fuel pump
p28 ecu tuned on chrome

full tune up of everything including
royal purple 10w30 oil
ngk iridium plugs one heat range colder than stock and NGK wires
9lb flywheel with full face clutch
LS tranny (for now)

I think the next step is build a relatively mild b18c with ls crank or maybe a b20 and spray a 50 shot on it.

VTEC on those cams is a bit hght but other than that good simple build.
GSR cams typically max out on dynojets at about 175whp. Is your PS and AC hooked up?

why not just put some good cams, springs retainers in that motor. looks like its dieing for more top end.

yeah, I was surprised the tuner didn't lower the vtec point either. I didn't realize 175whp for gsr cams was common considering I've seen stock gsr dyno at <150whp and stock type R dyno at 170whp, so 177whp was more than I was expecting.

This thing seems to get >30mpg no matter how I drive it too. Awesome.

I have no AC or PS on this car.

Any idea why the dyno guy reved it to 8200 rpm when the motor clearly stopped making power at 7000rpm? Also he only did maybe 7 dyno pulls which was less than I was expecting to dial in the motor with the cam gears and everything. that sound right?

he revved it to 8200 so when you hit the next gear you wont fall out of power hard. considering your running a ls tranny.

and no one said 175whp was common out of gsr cams, he said thats were gsr cams max out at. not saying 175whp is weak, saying its gonna be real hard to make more n/a without changing to bigger cams.

thats good power though.

thanks, yeah I'm pretty happy with it. It's not super fast but quick enough to be fun on my drive to work. I think with a 50 shot and some drag radials should be a fun and reliable car.

For those of you wondering how reliable and nitrous can be used in the same sentence, my last car was sprayed for 60k miles all the time with a small shot and my mustang 5.0 before that got sprayed all the time from 140k to 180k miles until I sold it. Nitrous can be reliable if you keep the shot small and get it properly tuned and don't try to cut corners.

Cams would be fun but I think I'd prefer a 50 shot. I live in CA too so smog is an issue with after market cams and not an issue with nitrous (easy to hide and doesn't affect emissions).

hey K7,

that ef sedan is DOPE. hilarious to break off low 13's in a ef sedan....awesome.

I notice you tuned your car yourself, I have given some serious thought to buying a hondata and a wideband and tuning my stuff myself just because I'm a perfectionist. how hard was it to learn? you recommend doing it that way?

those are pretty good numbers, dose your breather blow out and white/blue smoke at FT..??/ if so your blown rings maybe hurting your power. 177 is a great number..but a GSR tranny would be perfect for your set-up since its your daily driver.. perfect highway gears.

but come tuner series cams, should help out defiantly.

thanks, the breather wasn't blowing out too much smoke but definitely a little smoke out the exhaust at full throttle some does come out of the breather but its pretty minimal. but I think I'm just going to build another motor, either ls crank in a gsr block or a b20vtec.

Im hoping for high 13's in my sedan, haven't gotten to run the damn thing yet because weather in oregon ****in sucks!!! rain every weekend. forecast is nice for tomorrow though

as for tuning, I started with my ls turbo, I had it tuned by a shop then slowly learned how to do things like change injectors, change turbo and intake manifold and I just modified my tune that I had. Im still a little nervous with messing with timing but Im learning, thats why I got rid of my mid 11 sec dd turbo hatch was to get a all motor car to learn on.

as for tuning all motor I think its a little more complicated then tuning a turbo car (just because Im new to it) I tuned mine my self and then I changed over to a stock itr basemap and it ran way harder... I didn't touch the stock timing map on the p30 though when I was doing it all and I think thats what was hurting it. I can't wait to get some trap speeds to see where Im at power wise.

its crazy my oil control rings are shot on my motor too but it checks out at almost an even 240 acrossed the board!

as for nitrous, Im gonna put a 75 shot on my 1.6 and tune it through s300 with 450 injectors to control the fuel. the nice thing about the s300 is it can control alot of nitrous stuff any thing from rpm window switch to throttle percentage and map sensor reading to determine when to turn the nitrous on. also you can pull timing and add fuel when the nitrous is activated. its pretty sweet.

ya I have a aem wideband. its nice being able to tune your own car, most of the time I spend on it is partial throttle so I get good mpg.

nice, I think next time I need a tune that's what I'm going to do, these guys charged me $225 for the tune which is like half of what I would need to do it myself. is there a guide book somewhere or instruction manual on hondata that you used?

just curious what the best mpg you've gotten too? I've gotten 38mpg without even doing anything crazy like 50mph on the freeway and I was totally blown away, I had no idea you could get that good of mpg. This car even gets 30mpg when I beat it within an inch of its life ?!

best Iv gotten was about 34mpg with my ls turbo and around 36 with the sedan. I think my sedan needs an alignment too. and hondata is super simple, if you do get s300 and have any questions just pm me. also get on pgmfi.org and read as much as you can, at first its confusing as all hell but you'll get the hang of it.

hahaha, tempting but I think I'm going with a 50 shot instead, makes me feel that with itr cams and a good intake manifold though 200whp would not be tough. note the torque curve too, this motor made about 10lb more than I expected.
